Yes they need a D, but I don't know how you pass up those Russians.
What if they ended up 2nd and Grig was gone! Do you draft the unreal winger or do you roll the dice on the player you desperatly need? That would be a tough call, I personally don't like drafting dmen so high but their 1st line wings are set.

Is it safe to say yet that the Oilers are a terribly run organization and not geniuses for being so terrible?

You gotta fill a top 6, I think they gotta go BPA unless someone offers them a ton of picks to trade down.

You'd still be building two dynamic lines.

They grabbed Klefblom with their extra 1st rounder at 19, and Musil at 31. Thats basically two first rounders (31 is the 1st pick of the 2nd) on D.

Klefblom was really good at the WJC too getting on the Tourney All-Star team (though i thought it should have been Brodin instead, with Klefblom as an honourable mention).

Oilers are building a very nice core. Give them time.

Same was said about the Blackhawks, Capitals and Penguins about 6 or 7 years ago.

Oh Oilers will be scary in like 4 or so years.

But I don't see how anyone could think a team would plan that until it's already been happening for a few years. In 6 or 7 years I'll be in another decade of my life, I'd like to have hockey to distract me in the meantime.

No I doubt teams plan to be at the bottom this long.

I think the Oilers were hoping for a step forward this year,... one of the reasons they went and added the Belangers, Suttons, Eagers as vets to the roster.

Hopefully for them its new management that will get to manage the best years of this core, because I don't like Lowe, and I'm not sure what to think on Tambellini.

Speaking of teams who didn't take the step up people were expecting (but will finish the season ahead of the Oilers and likely us) - Tavares is quickly becoming one of my favourite players. Combine elite hockey sense with the willingness to go anywhere it takes to make a play...there's making everyone else around you better, and there's what Tavares does.

Halak's a good goalie, no denying that.

The difference between him and Price is clear to see though, and was clear when they were traded.

Price can consistently handle 65+ starts per season... Halak can't.

If Price had the Blues team in front of him the story would be the same. Habs are playing horrible hockey under RC. Martin wasn't much better since the team could never hold leads. Hitchcock has the Blues playing full 60 minute games.
