I don't think Nitty is a nice guy. He whines to the media about his playing time two years in a row. I'm sure he's no more cordial behind closed doors.

Yeah, he's kind of a ****** based on his quotes about DW: "...this guy"

Still though, he's not THAT injury prone; he'll be fine if he plays a few games in the NHL.

Yeah totally agree. I see his side too, and I wouldn't mind him playing this game or a few others before.

Who knows though... maybe he's not practicing that well either? I remember when Niemi was benched for a bit, the coaches all praised him for his work ethic and attitude. Haven't exactly heard the same praise for Nitty.

I'm pretty sure I remember McLellan saying how Niitty had a "good practice." Sharks are just goalie Nazis, is all.

Must have missed that. I guess that was some wild speculation on my part anyway.

It was last season. He voicing his frustration with not being played, and apparently Doug Wilson walked by behind him. He told the reporter "You'll have to ask that guy."

It was after Niemi was signed, I think. He was asked whether he was frustrated about it and if he thinks he'd be a #1 goaltender, and as DW passed by him, he said something along the lines: "I dunno, it's up to that guy."

How about some irony:

There are a good number of folks in San Jose that since his return want Niitty to play at least one more game for the SJSharks.

There are a good number of folks in Worcester that since his return don't want Niitty to play a one more game for the WorSharks.

I think they'd rather see the kids (Sexy and Sateri) play. Those two have been great.

So he might not get playing time in Worcester too?

Honestly, whatever people might think about Nitty, he has gotten a raw deal with the Sharks. When he signed he was the #1. Now he's in Worcester.

It's wierd when you look at how Wallin was untouchable despite playing like garbage, but Nitty gets sent to the minors despite playing well when given the opportunity last year. I understand why, but feel bad for Nitty.

Wallin is Doug Wilsons best friend.

Came here expecting to find a photoshopped "Nope- just Chuck Testa" Niitty photo. I am disappoint.

Never heard this before, IIRC Niitty was really excited when interviewed by finnish media that he doesn't get handed the #1 job on a silver platter and that he has to fight for it.

Good thing he didn't get his way (being the #1).

you never know how he's gonna play until you put him in an NHL game

and after some of the stinkers Niemi has had lately, why wouldn't they?

Niittymaki is more than capable of being a #1 goaltender in the NHL

Because it's probable that they have more faith in Greiss right now than Niittymaki. And no, Niitty is not more than capable of being a #1 goalie. His best is being a platoon goalie...that's it.

Can't help but think his banishment to WoSharks is to get him out of San Jose also. Being vocal to the media about not playing, wanting to play, etc. is not productive to the sharks as a team generally. He's a good player, solder and needs a chance, hope DW can find an NHL team for him soon.

He's being given the chance to show he can play, and if he has a decent weekend (he doesn't need a great one) he'll be gone for a low to mid round pick. If he's bad it's going to cause some big issues in the organization because it gives DW very few options.

This - he's not being banished to Worcester...he didn't have to accept this assignment (if I'm remembering right). He wants to prove he's still a good goaltender, and I respect him for that - I don't have any problem with anything Niitty has said.

I'm really hoping he has a good showing and Wilson can find a trade partner because the guy doesn't deserve to sit in the press box for the rest of the year.

Correct, players can refuse conditioning assignments.

I hope he does well so DW can get something for him and get him a NHL chance to play, you can always waive a player and see who wants him even if we can't make a deal.
He should be motivated to play good to increase his options...
