Just cause he CAN speak french doesn't mean he's a francophone. I'm bilingual but I wouldn't say I'm a francophone.

I just mention this because people have this idea that he's a Briere or a Giroux type of franco-Canadian. He's not. He pronounces his last name as "ROY" like a guy name Roy, not "Roi"
Umm Daniel is a Quebecois pure laine. Born in Gatineau, and has french parents. He played in L'Abitibi and i only remember him as a francophone while playing with Drummondville.

I'm less size-obsessed than many here, but I still wouldn't want to acquire Roy. He's not enough of an upgrade on DD or Eller to make up for the age and salary difference, and he's not even close to an upgrade on Plekanec in any way.

I don't know how the conversation got to AK but..well, call me crazy, but trying to resign Kostitsyn for a decent price in the offseason, even if it fails isn't the worst case scenario. Better off trying that than making him part of a misguided package deal or to bring back a bad contract in return. Losing AK for free is still better than getting a negative sum back.

If he was traded at the deadline, Hornqivst wouldn't be the worse return. Not really a step up, another streaky player with less size and power, but he does get himself a fair share of garbage goals with skill to back it up.

Probably why he didn't want to play in Montreal.

The only acceptable reason to be interested in Derek Roy would be too see if you can get him for cheap then flip him in a package for a real top center.

I wouldn't even trade Desharnais for Roy. They're both small but at least Desharnais is cheaper. Desharnais will be just as good as him in a year's time.

I think people need to understand this. Apart from Gionta ALL our top 9 wingers are big guys and somewhat physical. Apart from DD all our centers are 5'11 or higher. We aren't particularly 'small' anymore. Granted, not intimidating but not small. Not getting Roy has more to do with the fact he's NOT a significant upgrade rather than him being undersized. I mean, Zetterberg is 5'11 and I'd take him. Really very little to do with size and more to do with the fact he's not what we're looking for.

When is the last time a team won the cup with 2 sub 5'10" forwards in the top 6?

I really think the size obsession is overblown here especially after Cammalleri was traded for a decent size replacement, but I do think having 2 centres who are under 5'10" is a little extreme. The 6' mark is a bit overrated, 5'10 and 5'11" guys can hold their own but after that it does become a concern. If our Cs were "smurfs" Crosby, Daysyuk and Zetterberg I don't think trading for Getzlaf would make any sense.

But like you said the primary reason for concern is not his height but that he would be a slight boost in offense at the expense of everything else. Desharnais might get overmatched at times but he works harder defensively than Roy does.

I talked to more than a few people who know Roy personally and they don't have many good things to say about him. I'll leave it at that.

Move on.
