Today is National Penguin Awareness Day

Yes, it's true.

Penguin Awareness Day, on January 20th, is a very important holiday, because penguins are on the endangered species list. Many people around the world adore these cute birds, yet they do not realize that they are in danger of becoming extinct. In fact, some species of penguins have been endangered for many years. About 18 species of penguins remain.

With the way the Penguins are receiving concussions and various other injuries these days, it's no wonder they are on the endangered species list.

As I said earlier in today's GDT, I saw this on the Pens Facebook page a lil' while ago.

The headline coupled with the cute little Iceburgh picture made me think it was just a fun fan "holiday". I had no idea that this was in fact was legit, or about the actual animal.

Pretty ****ing awesome.

Damn straight.

Today is also the perfect day to show the world how badass and awesome penguins are. And how good at sports they are too.

Paging Geno Malkin....

Awareness days always struck me as funny. Okay so I'm aware of a problem....now what?

In any case, 18 different Penguins will be on the ice tonight so I guess well get to see them all in one place.

LOL who knows...tell all your friends?

There are 18 species, in the 18th specie there is only one Penguin, his name is Evgeni.
