Patrice Bergeron missed a year with his 1st major concussion, a month with his 2nd, and had a couple smaller ones after, but seems fine now, as healthy as ever, and as effective on the ice as ever (arguably better than ever). Matthew Lombardi missed a year, and has so far been fine (at least concussion wise, he missed games with a shoulder injury). David Perron missed a bit over a year, and seems fine so far, he's also currently playing at a higher PPG pace than he ever has in the past. Peter Mueller just came back after missing a year. Nobody is calling for any of these guys to retire, once doctors clear Crosby to play again, he will. If he keeps getting concussed, eventually he would have to call it quits, but hopefully that doesn't happen.

Not really. We have witnessed the proof over the years.

Pat LaFontaine, Mike Richter, Jeff Beukeboom.

These are all guys that had to retire due to concussion related issues.

Eric Lindros became a shell of his Philly days due to the repeated concussions he's received.

The list goes on and on.

To think that Sidney Crosby is any less prone to suffering a career ending hit the next game he plays is being a little naive

The original post talked about Crosby dying and was suggesting retirement over death. I think that is a giant assumption. Also, I think it is important to think about the personal freedom of the players in the game. Crosby is almost positively aware of the risks and dangers of his chosen profession, and should be allowed to make choices for himself based on that information. And fans should respect that.

Exactly this. There was a lot of fretting about Perron because he had been out SO much longer than Sid, and the consensus was that if was taking that long Sid was screwed. Well, guess what, Perron is better than ever.

Sid may come back and it may not last, but we'll see him back and dominating, it's just a matter of time.

yeah but Crosby didn't get another concussion, just a hit, and his symptoms from a conussion sustained a year ago resurfaced. this really doesn't look good.

You are correct, sir.

I am an Oilers and Wild fan first, but I respect all great players of the game, and can see through the "I hope he retires for his health" garbage being tossed about by guys who really want him out of the game for a variety of messed up reasons.

Well maybe, no one on here but on the avs board, it seemed like everyone wanted him to retire,

Exactly, the same thing happened to Mueller twice. Hell the 2nd time nobody even knew what happened to him. They just said he wasn't feeling right for 3 months.
