Pause the video at 11 seconds and look where the contact is. It's a couple inches off the boards.

And back it up to the beginning now and look at how much speed Ference has coming in.

You can't tell me that is McDonaghs fault AT ALL.

How else is he supposed to play that puck guys? You say that is McDs responsibility and I don't buy that **** AT ALL.

How else is he supposed to play that puck? Ference isn't supposed to back off completely...but he is supposed to back off enough to not board McDonagh in a helpless position and possibly injure him.

Okay. Got it.

A legal hit would not have been squaring a shoulder right into McDonaghs numbers.
I don't think McDonagh was trying to get Ference to run him through the boards, but if he wasn't trying to draw a penalty then why peer over your shoulder, see the dude coming at you, then just stop and turn your back to him. McDonagh put himself in a bad position by stopping 3 feet from the boards knowing Ference was coming and turning his back to him without bracing for the impact. It's a fast, physical game and if you're gonna turn your back to a guy you know is coming you should have some responsibility. had McDonagh stood up and not turned his back, that hit would've probably been shoulder to shoulder and not in the numbers.

In other news, Couture with a pretty nice SH goal, 1-1.

No one said you have to buy into anything, it is just 2 opinions going back and forth. no need to get upset. And more often than not now, I am seeing more and more d-men in McDonagh's position stand up and try and deliver the cold shoulder instead of playing the puck directly.

Go watch the replay again. And like I said pause it at 11 seconds. McDonagh NEVER STOPS SKATING. That is wrong. He skates all the way into the corner.

And as far as peering over his shoulder. Every nhl defensmen does that. Watch the game tonight and mark down how many times you see a player peer over his shoulder with an oncoming forechecker.

It's so they know wether or not to wheel it up the boards, to hold it, what side of the ice his players are on. If he doesn't look over the shoulder he has no idea where his players are at, and would be attempting to wheel the puck around using only his players vocal signals.

That is 100% common practice to see a player look over his shoulder. It doesn't at all mean he is looking at a guy so he can see if he can draw a call. That is a ridiculous notion.

In fact in the game JUST now, Boyle just looked over his shoulder when Vancouver dumped it in.

I guess he was trying to look for someone to board him so he could draw a call right?

If McD would have stood up he still would have had his back to the boards, ergo, it still would have been a dangerous hit.

P.S. not angry at you at all. Just think you're 100% wrong lol no ill will intended. We obviously have very differing opinions on this play.

I fully aware of why he was peering over his shoulder, but if when he did, and he didn't see Ference coming with steam then he needs to get his eyes checked. I know if I see some dude gunning me down I am going to stand up and brace myself while trying to give some back. We just see it in 2 totally opposite ways.

And to me, i'm still thinking about making the play like I have 10 times out of 10. And Ference is still thinking about initiating the contact.

McDonagh is thinking about playing the puck, Ference the body.

And therein lies the fault with what Ference did.

I find the super dramatic music that the canucks broadcast uses to cut to commercial super amusing for some reason.

Melodramatic a bit

Am I the only one getting a kick out of watching the Ducks slowly play their way out of the top 5?

Vancouver and SJ filling the nets in the last couple of minutes. Some weird bounces off the backboards in Vancouver as well.

Handzus is having a tough go. He misses the net which leads to Vancouver's third goal, and then he tips the 4th one in. Ouch.

Ducks should have been called for a trip at the end of that game. Refs really blew that one.

Yotes trail 2-0 after 1.

EDIT: 3-0 in the 2nd.

Dallas vs Minnesota just got underway.

Crawford isn't having such an easy time in Nashville.

Gave up 4 goals and got pulled. One of those goals was from center ice.
