Lavi is not a huge fan of fighting. That might be part of the reason.

Actually think that makes him more tradable....And how's that a horrible idea, our D is weak and soft and we will be embarrassed again in the play-offs as we get pushed around by the Bruins and Rangers.

Beauchemin took a discount to stay in Anaheim, he didn't play up to standards when leaving the first time, IMO. He's in a place where he's comfortable and excels in.

well that just means the flyers would have to give up a lot more to get him IF thats true. either way flyers will lose out on a deep draft and the problem with the D is that the forwards don't do nearly enough. bringing in gleason and gill will def help but not as much as you would think imo. center ice position (which is has the most defensive responsibilities) for the flyers is G, Briere, Schenn and Coots. G's line has struggled offensively as well as defensively, Briere flat out sucks on D (which is a big reason why i think he should be moved to the wing), Schenn is still young and gets out muscled in his own zone often (which is ok since he's still young), Coots is one of our best defensive forwards but he only sees the ice for 12 min a game. Sure plyers like talbot and jake are good in there own zone but they can only do so much. I think the flyers need to work on playing TEAM defense and while acquisitions like gleason, gill or beauchemin will help they are individuals and when you consider the teams defensive problems like the lack of back checking by the forwards or the constant turnovers by both the D and forwards i don't see how they could possibly make that much of a difference. like will getting gleason and beauchemin make the forwards do a better job in there own zone or stop the constant turnovers. idk i just don't think that it's worth losing the picks who could turn into something (like a good D-man) or be used to acquire a true #1 d-man in the offseason. imo gill would be enough (probably only cost the flyers a 2nd rounder) then the team could concentrate on playing better hockey as a five man unit which i believe is the key to their success. i didn't mean to be rude or offend you with the "horrible idea" comment its just my opinion.

they need to replace the size and toughness they loss when they lost Pronger. They should make a trade now for Sutton or SOB to replace that at minimum then try to make a move for Gleason, Kubina or even Zannon before the deadline.

I would look at adding a guy like Jackman or Kostopolis (sp) to the fouth line or bringing up Sestito. Harry Z and Rinaldo have done a nice job but

Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
JVR - Briere - Simmonds
Read - Schenn - Voracek
Talbot - Coots - Jackman
Z/Rinaldo

Coburn - Kimo
Carle - Kubina/Gleason
Sutton - Mez

Today's game, after the timeout, was much better than what I've been seeing lately.

This team is soft.

The D just stand there as the other team hack at our G.

They just sit there and let players take cheap hits.

Only a select few consistently throw their bodies around.

Soft is lame. They have the most regulation/OT wins in the entire NHL. If that's what soft gets you, sign me up.

We'll get used and abused by teams like Boston.

As we sit, we are a very different team than we were on opening night.

We took no crap that night (but didn't hand it out either) and won.

Need more of that. Need more snarl.

Boston has one regulation/ot win in their last 5 games. They had a nice run, but their lack of discipline will catch up to them.

That depends. They got away with it vs. Vancouver.

I think the Bruins got more SHG than Vancouver had PPG in that series. You can't count on that happening again, I wouldn't think.

Plus, Vancouver responded by taking their own penalties. When Vancouver responded by just playing hockey, they won games both last year and the matchup this year.

I agree. I said the exact same thing in the Ference boarding major thread.

However if Boston stops play dumb but keeps playing physical (last year) , then we will still get beat....as we sit anyways.

Vancouver's power play went dry, this is true. I think Vancouver was the better team, they just played awful in Boston and let it come down to one anything-can-happen game.

Boston felt they could do as much as they wanted because Vancouver wouldn't answer and the referees couldn't possibly call everything.

As we know though, the rules tend to change given the situation.

At this point, I don't think in a 7-game series we'll beat them anyways. I think the Rangers are the only team in the East who can right now.

But they would be even better with snarl.

False. We are best when we have 18 skilled hockey players plus a good goalie. Snarl is a regular season luxury thing that isn't necessary anymore.

The ONLY reason Boston won last year is because they had said snarl.

They were beat, bruised and left for dead until Van's Rome destroyed Horty.

Bruins got angry and responded in a physically and mostly clean way.

I disagree with your opinion.

No, the only reason the Bruins won is they were allowed to break two players backs/necks without consequences. Refs didn't stand up to their dirty style of play because daddy campbell was looking over their shoulder.

I wouldn't say it's the only reason, but one of the reasons is that their goaltender had maybe the best season a goaltender has ever had in the history of the game.

Now you're just being ridiculous. So nows there's a Bruins conspiracy that led them to the cup. Please.

That theory is as bad as all the B fans saying the NHL is trying to keep them from getting back to backs.

This team desperately needs some snarl on the back-end.
I agree that the defense needs more toughness. I don't think Meszaros has been bad or that Coburn is a wuss - but they do need more. Carle, Timonen, Bourdon and Gustafson as the other 4 don't bring any toughness at all (Bourdon is a big kid but it doesn't look like he has the skating to play a real physical game at this level)

Not sure that just adding a guy like Gleason would fix it. Everybody was convinced that the Sabres adding Regher would be the difference...

I don't know what the solution is but I know there is a problem

Blasphemy. He's one of the toughest guys around. However, he's not clearing anyone out at 180lbs...
