Still dont know why Read-Couturier-XXXX isnt our 3rd line. Read and Couturier have OBVIOUS chemistry.
i've been saying that for the past 25 games. if we can see it, why can't lavy? and why continually give g's line 25min a game and couturier 7 or 8? i know they are your first line but if you really reward ice time based on performance then couts should be out there everyother shift not 7 minutes give or take.
I'm surprised no one is commenting on the Islanders' third goal. Bob made some great saves on those breakaways, and seemed to have played an overall great game, but if this was Bryz in net, you'd be all over that softie. Oh, well, I guess one has to get used to double standards, and I can't really say I'm immune to them, either, but still.
I have to say that I'd disagree with your comments about the 3rd goal. Just re-watched it and Bob was square to the shooter, didn't go down early (the puck was already released when Bob went into the butterfly), etc. Given the way that play progressed (the tick tack passing), I actually think Bob was in excellent position. The shooter made a great shot though right into the corner.
Re-watch the goal and tell me what exactly you think Bob did wrong. He was square and he didn't go down early, so I don't know what you want. I guess you could say he shouldn't have gone into the butterfly @ all, but that is the way of the modern goalie. They go butterfly on pretty much every shot... the idea is to not give the shooter a clear view of the corner by going down early... and Bob didn't go down early.
Hats off to Streit for a nice shot IMO.
Mind you that pretty much all goalies will go into the butterfly after

I wish people would give bryz the same impartial analysis.
Sometimes you tip your hat to the shooter.
I thought bob played well...but the team in front of him didn't give him much opportunity for success. Like the first goal was all giroux and jagr herpderp defensive play.
What is sad is that they have learned nothing from the last game. How many times can you allow that many breakaways and get away with a win?!
They really don't seems to be progressing. I like puppies and daisies and rainy Spring mornings spent reading Thoreau by the fire. Maybe they will progress as the rookies mature and if the upper lines get their edge back.

I'm not a goalie nor have I ever had any lessons on what a goalie "has" to do in a particular situation, so I can only go from my gut and what I gathered over the years watching hockey. So I can't point out what he did wrong, all I know is when I saw the goal I didn't like it, and after watching it a couple of more times, that feeling subsided a little, although it's still there. I still think he should've had it, since the shot wasn't that accurate (it was close to the post, but not really high, and he just had to squeeze the arm better), and the play wasn't too fast for proper positioning. Overall, from watching the highlights, he seemed to have had a great game, but I just feel he should've saved that one.

general rule of thumb most of us goalies go by [yes, i play goal] is that if it's an un-screened shot, an un-tipped shot, and you get a piece of it, you gotta make the save & consider it a bad goal if you don't.
