Pick your 2005/06 All-Star teams...

Because of the olympic break there will be no NHL All-Star game this year, but thought it would be fun to see who everyone feels is deserving of recognition at this time in the season(just prior to the half way point). Forget about picking one player from every team as that stipulation is crap! Anyway, here are my two teams:

Western Conference

Markus Naslund-Joe Thornton-Todd Bertuzzi
Alex Tanguay-Joe Sakic-Pavol Demitra
Henrik Zetterberg-Pavol Datsyuk-Brendan Shanahan
Ladislav Nagy-Patrick Marleau-Marek Svatos

Extras: Jarret Stoll, Mike Modano, Steve Sullivan

Nicklas Lidstrom-Mathieu Schneider
Lubomir Visnovsky-Ed Jovanovski
Chris Pronger-Sergei Zubov

Extra:Rob Blake

Marty Turco
Mikka Kiprusoff
Tomas Vokoun

Eastern Conference

Dany Heatley-Jason Spezza-Daniel Alfredsson
Simon Gagne-Peter Forsberg-Jaromir Jagr
Ilya Kovalchuk-Marc Savard-Marian Hossa
Eric Staal-Sidney Crosby-Alexander Ovechkin

Extras:Olli Jokinen, Brian Gionta, Vinny Prospal

Bryan McCabe-Tomas Kaberle
Zdeno Chara-Wade Redden
Joni Pitkanen-Dan Boyle

Extra:Andrei Markov

Dominik Hasek
Henrik Lundqvist
Roberto Luongo

I think you did a pretty good job. The only one I can truly disagree on is Blake. Dion Phaneuf deserves a spot before Rob.

Team Sweden.

I agree, Dion over Rob. But otherwise good.

couple problems with your list there. I dont see Brian Rolston ro Manny Fernandez on there. Manny leads the league in GA and save% and Brian Rolston is averagin a point pergame for the wild with 39 or 40 points.

IMO, Fernandez and Roloson benefit greatly by playing in front of the Wild's stingy defense. If Fernandez was on another team, I don't feel he'd have the same numbers. As for Rolston, he's having a great season and could be in place of someone such as Zetterberg, but I didn't choose him. Personal preference, nothing more.

I agree.......Fernandez ahead of Turco. The Rolston argument may be hard because all of the forwards have superior numbers to brian except for Svatos and Sullivan. Since Colorado already has 2 players sub Rolston with Svatos.

As much as I love Frolov he is not deserving of an allstar game.....yet. Also switch McCabe with Kaberle. No Visnovski?????Definitely deserves to be there ahead of Regehr.

The east's 3rd line looks almost as if its better than than the wests 1st line. Would anyone agree? Also how could you not put Jagr on the first line. Hes a front runner for MVP this season.

I guess you could also say the 3rd defensive pairing in the West looks better than the first defensive pairing in the East. So what is the point?

Let's say that both of u have a good point.. So then this should be a good matchup!

No one tried to put one player of every team..? Will that rule be re-establish?

Didn't want to break up the Ottawa line. Besides, it's not like there is really a 1st or 2nd line anyway, at least in the East, they're both awesome.

Nice third line for the West...Pasha, Brendan and Henrik have been playing well together...I think having Brendan playing on the line with Pasha is kinda like the way it was with Brett Hull...they compliment each other well. I am also glad to see you giving some credit to Mathieu Schneider.

If there were a Young Stars game, I'd seriously think about Johan Franzen as a possible participant.

I tried to keep teammates together as much as possible when I made the lines. There's the Bertuzzi-Naslund combo, Sakic-Tanguay, the 1st and 3rd lines in the Eastern conference and comprised entirely of linemates(although I don't think Kovalchuk plays with Savard and Hossa). Good to have chemistry when playing a single game!
