Marty St. Louis to Rangers

Many of us think he would be a great addition to the team. Lightning are not doing to well this year. What would it take to get him plain and simple.

I know our 1st would be included. What does Tampa need?

With what it would cost and having a guy who will be 37 in June and is signed for another 3 seasons after this, I can't see it making sense for the Rangers.

Did not know he was signed for another 3. For some reason I thought he only had 1 more left after this. IMO changes his trade value.

Honestly, he's worth more to the Bolts franchise and Tampa Bay community on and off the ice than he would be to the Rangers. The asking price would be more than Sather or NYR fans would want to spend. I just don't see it as an ideal scenario for a trade on either side. Also he has a NMC he'd be unlikely to waive.

He's 37 and yet hasn't had fewer then 60 points since '02. You'd have to give alot. He's a PPG player.

The amount the Lightning would have to receive to make it worth the fan backlash would be significantly higher than the Rangers would pay.

Would be insane, he means so much to that organization and he's still an amazing player.

41 points in 42 games. Not to mention his meaning to the franchise and community as a whole.

It'd have to be a King's ransom. (as in Lundqvist).

Well with that post, might as well close the thread because I don't see this going anywhere productive

MSl is basically the real captain of the Lightning. He's also got a NMC I believe. No way he's going anywhere.

Seriously?

No way St. Louis is dealt but he instantly becomes you best forward.. Baetter than Gaborik, better than Richards.. at a lower price tag.

St, Louis is not dealt but if he was he would get a huge return.

If Rangers did somehow get MSL, I wouldn't worry about his age. He's clearly shown that he hasn't declined like most 30-something aged players do. If anything, his last 2 seasons were some of this best of his career (Both seasons chosen for second team all-star. How many times have Gabby or Richards done that? none). Add the fact that he's been damn consistent, hardly misses any games, great leadership, has a cup and is always great in the playoffs. And he has a low cap hit relative to what he brings, which essentially means he's a bargain right now and only when/if his production dips will it actually match the cap hit, and only when/if his production dips by a large amount will the contract be bad (doubt that'll ever happen).

He's also played with Richards in the past, and no, it's not MSL's centreman that makes MSL good, if anything, it's the other way around as whatever centreman that has MSL on their wing usually goes on to have an insane season. Honestly, I think MSL would put NYR over the top and either Rangers or Bruins would be my favorite to win the cup (this season at least)

This post sums it up.

Its no coincidence that Vinny, Stammer and Brad have all had career seasons with MSL on their wing. He has been different players for all of them, sign of a great, that he can make COMPLETELY different players better by altering his game without seeing any decline. Was sniper for Richards, playmaker for Stammer, mix of the two for Vinny.

Every team could use him.

I just don't want to give up what it would cost. St. Louis is not a rental, he's not really on a downswing. He's still a PPG player, there's absolutely no reason for Tampa to trade him.

It would be a good starting point Tampa would want something else as well due to Marc's injury. Trading MSL would be a huge vote of no confidence in the team but would bring back a few big assets. He's deeply rooted in Tampa so I wouldn't count on it happening.

Staal+Kreider or something along the lines. Staal as the centerpiece, Kreider as the winger replacement for MSL (if you can replace MSL).

I'd probably do that, but I'm not as big on Kreider as most.

How about Richie and Staal for St. Louis and Kubina!? eh please?

Really though as stated above it would start with Staal and would also include your 1st.
