Tim Thomas Cheated?

@D_LEED
Whoa. Intetesting RT @FlyGoalScoredBy: And for the cherry on top of this day, did Tim Thomas cheat befor the shootout? http://www.***********/r/Flyers/comme...ter_down_just/

http://twitter.com/D_LEED/status/161294823444320256

Supposedly Thomas sprayed water on the ice in front of the crease to make the puck skip. There is a picture on the link of Thomas spraying water on the ice.

With Bryz's record on the shootout thus far, it wasn't necessary.

Overreacting. Calm down everyone. It may have been a dirty trick, but it didn't lead to the loss IMO.

The water eventually freezes, but it takes a couple of minutes. In the meantime, the water on the ice actually makes the puck "stick" to the ice. This effect is common when you skate on ice after the zamboni cleans the ice and before the water has had time to freeze. It makes it very difficult to handle the puck as it gets caught in any wet spots.

It would freeze on top of the ice shavings. I imagine it would really mess with the way the puck handles, right? Anybody care to correct that?

Edit: someone already clarified.

If it's not against the rules, it's pretty clever. I can see it becoming against the rules quickly.

In all the years of watching hockey I have never seen a goalie squirt excess water from his bottle onto the ice!

I've seen refs use the water bottle to repair divits in the ice, but come on man!

That doesn't worry me as much as Thomas sweeping Giroux's feet out after G scored on his attempt.

I do love Thomas though. His scumbaggery would look great in a Flyers jersey.

Haha, a cheeky move on Thomas's part, and I have to say I like it despite the fact it may have cost us a point.

Bryz should skate around the entire defensive zone with water bottles.

I always thought placing any obstacle on the ice was against the rules? Squirting water could be akin to leaving your stick on the goal line or the top of the crease.

Here is the video. Read loses control of the puck at the exact spot Thomas squirted the water.

I'd like to add that anyone who actually played junior hockey would know what this was since the water bottle is used to fix small problems in ice quality all the time. Whenever a player notices a problem in the ice he tells the ref who comes over with a water bottle to take care of it.

If I may weigh in. It's only cheating if you get caught.
