Tim Connolly + Luke Schenn

for

John Carlson

The caps get a guy to fill in the void of Backstrom to some extent, and when backstrom comes back he's the # 2, Leafs get Carlson but need to give schenn.

At 5 million in cap-hit and the fact that he's a one-dimensional soft centerman who is underperforming.... i would say he has negative value or no value at all.

And why are we rushing to trade Connolly...he has not been terrible? Did you expect an 80 pt player or something?

He's got more points than MacArthur and Kulemin in fewer games. 24 its in 35 games. What did you expect?

As disappointing as this season has been for Buffalo fans, this thread, this thread makes us smile.

Effort, at the very least.

One Dimensional? He is one of our best defensive forwards and penalty killers. Lazy, yes but not one dimensional.

I don't mind keeping him until his contract is up, I would rather deal Komi or Lambo.

Not sure what the initial poster's problem has been with Connolly. He has been a very important piece for Toronto this season...probably our best two-way center. I am not thrilled with his health issues but when he is healthy he is a good to very good player for us.

Save your smile. Most Leaf fans don't mind him. Burke signed him to a contract that doesn't hinder us, and Connolly has been fine.

No, Grabbo has been the best two-way centre... as usual.

24 points in 35 games while being good defensively is not useless.

Could obviously show more effort at times, but that's always been the the knock on him. Definitely worth more to the Leafs than anyone else, don't know why you want to get rid of him so bad.

He is been fine. He is what we thought he would be. Not a game breaker but puts up some points.

Fans just need some scapegoat for losses. This one seems like one.

This post couldn't be more wrong. He's putting up points and is a good defensive player. The OP just has something against him.

You couldn't expect more than this from him, could you? To be honest, his point totals are much higher than I would have expected at this point.

Don't think I heard one leaf fan say that?? :S:S

I'd rather keep Connolly, it's not like MLSE's money is ours. If Burke needs cap space, he can do that very easily by waiving someone more useless.(Komi, Lambo)

Getting rid of Connolly, means we limit our offense to 2 scoring lines, instead of 3.

Why the rush to trade him?

Sure, he's been inconsistent, but so has every forward on the leaf team outside of Kessel & Lupul. With 24 points in 35 games he's probably about 3-4 points off where he should be... BFD.

This is a guy that was probably expected to put up around .75 points per game while playing ~60 games for a total of 45 points. He's on pace to play 61 and score 41.

Should Toronto be looking to trade him? Heck no. Grabovski is an impending UFA and could cost around $5m on a long term deal. If the Leafs have any intention of bringing in a #1 centre, having a #2 guy like Connolly at $4.5m is almost perfect. He can play on the #3 unit if the need arises. If not, you've got Bozak at $1.5m for the #3, and Colborne as the #1 callup. After next year, we walk.

Sure, Lombardi is playing well and makes $1m less, but it was a month ago when Connolly was lighting it up and Lombardi was doing nothing.
