In canada that hit would be praised and it would be in every highlight reel. In Finland it's a 5+20 and you get sent off... :shake head

Ref didn't have the balls to just give a 2 min minor for interference. Even that is so and so because Liivik just dumped the puck before the hit. It was like 0.5 seconds

SM-Liiga ref's are pretty stupid, they like to all give different penalties for same kind of situations.

But sometimes the fans are even more stupid because it feels when ever a guy from their team is checked (clean or not) they start to scream like it was not clean and they should give 5+20 for him.

I think it was pretty much one of the best hits i've seen. A little late, but not deserving a 5+20..

As a hit, it's crystal clear and a beauty. As a situation though, he didn't have the puck so it should've been 2min for interference... Not 5+20. Stupid SM-Liiga refs. Just because there is blood doesn't mean there has to be a major penalty.

Speaking of Ville Varakas, Jalonen should really give him a shot in the national team. 7+18 and +5 in 54 games is solid in my books. That, and the fact that he excels in hitting (as seen there), passing and he's got a good shot by FEL standards makes him worth a shot. I mean, obviously not in the WC but maybe 2012 Karjala tournament?
