Scott Hartnell named 1 of NHL 3 stars of the week

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...id=nhl-rxl-twt

Quote:
Hartnell, whose career high in goals for a season is 30, now is fifth in the League with 25 goals after a huge weekend as the Flyers defeated the Devils on Saturday and lost to the Bruins in a shootout Sunday.

Hartnell scored a pair of power-play goals in their victory Saturday in New Jersey, including the goal that ended up as the game-winner. The next day, with the Flyers down a goal in the second period, Hartnell took over and recorded a natural hat trick, temporarily giving them the lead. Two of those goals also came with the man advantage, and Hartnell now leads the League with 13 power-play goals.

"He got the opportunity to play with Giroux and (Jaromir) Jagr, but at first everyone was using him to be a space-maker out there," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "I don't think that's the case anymore. I think he's a key contributor and a key factor as to why that line is successful. He's got a lot of confidence right now the way he's playing. Tonight his game was excellent; he was physical and obviously offensively he did what he needed to do. He was a competitive guy out there for us. His game has been really good for a long time."

Man when i saw the replays and saw his third goal for the natural hat trick, it gave me goosebumps when they showed his father. Must have been an awesome experience for both of them.. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!

Hartnell Officially Snubbed From All Star Game

Looks like Hartnell has been officially snubbed (unless he somehow gets Ovechkin's spot if Ovechkin skips out). Disappointing... I think he deserves it more than a good number of people going, and he's having a career year, which is usually a plus in getting picked because you don't know if he'll ever get another chance.

Also, I think Letang making it is a joke... he's barely played this season. Surely there are other defensemen that deserve to go more?

http://espn.go.com/nhl/allstar2012/s...star-game-nods

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Edmonton Oilers forward Jordan Eberle and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang have been added to the roster for Sunday's NHL All-Star Game.

Minnesota Wild forward Nick Johnson will join the group of rookies participating in the All-Star Skills Competition.

Eberle and Letang replace injured Wild forward Mikko Koivu and Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien on the All-Star roster while Johnson replaces injured Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins among rookie selections.

Eberle leads the Oilers in goals (17), assists (27) and points (44) in 44 games. Eberle, the Oilers' first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2008 draft, will be making his All-Star Game debut.

Letang has earned his fourth invitation to All-Star weekend.

He played in the YoungStars game at Atlanta in 2008 during his first full season. He skated for the sophomores against the rookies in the 2009 YoungStars game at Montreal and made his All-Star Game debut in 2011 at Raleigh, N.C.

The All-Star player fantasy draft will be held on Thursday to divide the All-Stars and rookies into two teams -- Team Alfredsson, led by captain Daniel Alfredsson of the All-Star host Ottawa Senators and his assistant captain Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers; and Team Chara, featuring captain Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins and his assistant captain Joffrey Lupul of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Isn't Jamie Benn still on the roster? He just had an appendix out on Sunday...

Toews and Ovechkin still have to be replaced right?

Look for Giroux to try to set up hartnell big time tonight. I think they want to get him another couple of goals to improve his chances.

Hearing that with CHI's Jonathan Toews out of ASG because of injury, PHI's Scott Hartnell is the replacement. #hartnelldown

Awesome. I still think Elias is a bigger snub, especially since there are no players on the Devils on the team.

Hardest pass and freestyle falling down should be added to the competition.

that would certainly be an interesting development in a game where nobody cares or tries hard.

I think he should be in the fastest skater or how about the tendency to run the goalie competition or as previously mentioned the glove toss???

I think they try to keep the older players at home now, unless they want to go. They're supposed to be asking these guys if they want to go before naming them.

He'd easily win the "growing hair" competition.
