I don't really think you think this is actually possible do you?

Take Luca Brasi to negotiate.

That is simply not how this business works.

I'd rather A) Spend a bit less for a defender of better defensive aptitude, but not offensive at all, or B) Spend more to get a much better d-man.

If this teams solution to our current defensive issues is hoping for a healthy Pronger to play like he can after suffering this injury and extending Carle at a ridiculous rate to play with out other 4 3-4 slot guys, then we'll experience even worse problems next year.

It's time to shore it up. Too many guys of the same ceiling, we need a ringer.

Pronger (if healthy) - Suter
Timonen - Coburn
Mesz - Bourdon/Gus
Lilja

If Carle is worth 5+, I would gladly drive to Philly just to drive him to the airport, and hand that money + to someone like Suter. Hopefully the cap goes up to help this team out a bit.

Of the defensemen we have (minus Gus), Carle is my least favorite. I almost vomited when I heard the announcers say during last game that Lavy doesnt think Carle gets the credit he deserves.

No, when he single-handedly scores on our goalie or turns the puck over, he isn't awarded an assist or a goal - that's the only unrecognized credit he should get.

He is awful. Without Pronger, he just makes too many mistakes. They say when you don't notice a defenseman that means they are doing a good job (scoring aside) - well I almost always notice number 25. When a bad play is made, it's often 25 on the ice. Granted he did have a decent game the other day, but his good and bad games are severely lopsided.

Most overrated (hopefully not overpaid) player on our team.

Paying Carle that much money would be a mistake. His defensive skill makes him a liability as a defenseman at that cap hit; his game just isn't complete enough at this time. It might never become complete enough. I'd let someone else pay him the big bucks if that's what he's going to get.

Well if I have the choice to overspend for Carle or Suter, I'll take Suter. Besides, you know homer is going to trade for the negotiating rights for suter anyway, so he'll know what the market will be. I'm actually really happy with Gus & MAB. Though if pronger is really done, and kimmo will retire soon, you need Suter.

I would try to get Colaiacovo for relatively cheap, around $2.5MM for two years. For the 75% of the season he's healthy we get a sound defenseman who can play 20 minutes a night and scores around 0.5 PPG.

Without a doubt, trading carle+ for Suter would be awesome this year.

The question is:
How big is everyone willing to make the '+'

Watch, Homer will trade 3rd for Suter in 2012.
In 2013, when Timonen retires he will go after Weber.

Equivalent? I don't know. What I do know is I'd love to see the Flyers sign Andrej Sustr, a 6'8" defenseman from Nebraska-Omaha.

If landing weber or suter means carle has to be cut loose then so be it.

My first preference is weber

Second is suter

Third would be resigning carle to a team friendly deal, (3 yrs - 12 mil) otherwise I let him walk.

not to beat a dead horse but does carle, jvr, & 2 2nd rd picks get you weber?

Apposed to trying to acquire Suter, I would prefer Homer to throw a boat load of cash at him in the summer. And it is Homer so the deal would probably be massive. I would love to sign him up long term. 11 years 66 million or somewhere around that.

I also find it funny that Carle hasn't discussed any contract extensions with the flyers, but they locked up Coburn not too long ago. There is a lot that could be the reasoning behind this, but just find it somewhat interesting.

No, it does not get you weber. Not even close. If you try to get anyone you shoot for suter and you wait until the off season an get his rights. Anything else and the flyers have to overpay big time.

3rd for Suter's rights? There will be at least 4 teams trying to get his rights. flyers gave up a 3rd for hamhuis and there will be a bidding war Suter's rights. It will cost a 2nd at least IMO. Yeah I know the at least sound crazy but there will almost definitely be another conditional pick involved.

If Carle's price is going to be that high they ought to trade him now this season in a Versteeg-like deal and then trade the 1st for Gleason + 2nd.

in my opinion Georges > Carle > Martin and it's darn close and none of them are worth 4.5.

I would have liked Mark Streit instead of Carle. I think he does everything Carle does but he can also shoot.

Carle is horrible at the point. His shot really sucks. It's so slow and gets blocked so much. I miss Pronger.
