He didn't look NHL ready at the development camp a few weeks ago to me. He's skilled, but I think he has to learn what he can and can't do in the pro game before he has a shot in the NHL.
He didn't have the speed to blow by defenders regularly and didn't always make the most timely decisions with the puck. He made an extra move rather than pass or shoot when the opportunity presented itself too often, I think. I understand that's his game, but I doubt it'll carry over well to the pros at his size right now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Stars sign him and send him to Iowa though. Training camp will be the third time they've brought him in as an undrafted guy, so there's obviously some interest.
The Stars don't own Hisey's rights; he's an unsigned junior UFA.
However, the Stars have had him at several camps and may be the only team with a strong interest in him. They are probably the ones who suggested that he play with Ässät since the Stars and Ässät have some sort of trans-Atlantic affiliation (which is why Nickerson is in Finland instead of the ECHL). I fully expect the Stars to have him in camp again next fall, likely signed (look how Scalzo has worked out).
As for this goal, it wouldn't surprise me at all given what I've seen him do before. He had a true highlight reel goal in a skills competition earlier, but I'm surprised he'd pull that out in a pro game.
