BTW Penner is UFA after this season and his salary is off the books if he isn't willing to sign for peanuts.

So by adding a more expensive goalie we save more salary ????
Kurrilino has spoken. And so it shall be.

Dude....read.

Now you have cap space to make another deal at the deadline to pick up an proper LW.

Ps Gusto and Bernier are paid pretty much the same

Who cares if no one does (which someone would at this point in the season. It'd cost about $2 million for the rest of the year)? We can put him on the farm if we have to if no one claims him.

I'd rather do that then give up Bernier only to get a more expensive backup, and I'm sure DL would too.

EDIT: It'd cost approximately $1.67 million for the rest of the season.

i still don't get it...............

So Bernier and Gusto making the same.........
Why do we have to ad Penner then ????? Or what is even the purpose of this deal.
Penners contract ends anyways. We don't have to save cap.

Even if we find this misterious hidden LW we always needed, i'm absolutely sure the other team doesn't wanna give him for free.

Please name me a single LW sniper instantly available, just denied by not having enough cap space.
You can bet that every proposal including a LW will have Bernier included plus one of our young defenseman.

Anyone know how close to being "NHL ready" Zatkoff is? Common thought seems to be that Bernier is trade-bait, and if we don't get a goaltender in return, what is the realistic possbility of Zatkoff backing up Quick rather than going out and signing someone?

Philly is shopping JVR to fill thier need of a D-man. Aren't the Kings deep on the backend?

Yes, and I'd love to see JVR in a Kings sweater!

Perhaps Martinez + pick/prospect for JVR?

JVR would cost Voynov or Johnson

Disagree that it would have to include one of those 2. But if that were the case, I would much rather keep Voynov. The kids vision and quick shot are exactly what we need. I hope DL locks him up long-term this summer.

The Kings owner is the richest in the league, not sure he'd be willing to do that though.

Even if, Bernier is not worth a 1st more than Varlamov, maybe another 2nd.

Exactly. Anschutz might be rich enough but is the aloted Kings budget rich enough.

No, AEG cares more about a semi-retired David Beckham. Thanks for playing.

Not for years on end (like Redden with the Rangers) but for three months if it boosts their playoff chances? Yeah, most likely. $1.67 million isn't the greatest, but if they wait until the trade deadline, that amount drops to approximately $683,000. Hardly a big issue, especially considering the lost revenue if they don't make the playoffs.

That said, I doubt at least one team wouldn't take a chance on Penner on waivers at the tarde deadline hoping to find magic in a bottle at that price.

I agree it would cost one of them, easy. If you're Philly, do you really expect Alec Martinez is the best defenseman you can get for JVR? If we wanted him, we'd have to pony up Voynov or Johnson almost guaranteed, or we could just go home.
