An interesting blog from CBS sports on how the top scorers in the NHL have been used on ice:

Interesting article! Thanks for posting! I knew Kopi was up there as far as defensive responsibility for a top scorer, but I didn't realize he was pretty much #1 in that category. Way to go Kopi! Too bad they don't take this kinda stat into consideration for the Hart Trophy.

Kopi for Selke? This would be the second year now that I've thought he should be nominated...

Agreed. That's a pretty sweet look at something, "defensive responsibility," that's pretty hard to quantify.

I like the note about the Sedins. There's no secret their coach is using them in an offensive role, but it's very interesting that he lets the other centers on the team take over in the defensive zone, then throws the Sedins out there to control the puck, which they do very effectively. Smart coaching. Not a bash on the Sedins at all; that's just a very interesting contrast with how Kopitar is used.

did I miss the explanation of what the "Qual Comp" on the Y axis means?

Qual Comp = Quality of Competition. It's an attempt as measuring when a player is on the ice with the opponents top players versus a teams fourth line... It's more complicated than that but that's it in a nut shell.

Not surprising. Kopitar has been turned into the work horse of the organization. We've been riding his and Quick's coattails for a while now.
