On the main board someone is saying to bank on the Ducks claiming him. Considering they are pretty thin at goalie right now, it wouldn't surprise me. Obviously Nitty has no trade value (meaning DW probably tried but nobody was interested), so the Sharks need to get rid of him and his cap hit and also do right by him and find him a place to play in the NHL.
NHL Head Coaches are, by and large, vastly overrated, especially when correlating the success and failure of the team to coaching prowess. Todd McLellan is the epitome of this.
LeBrun said he heard from multiple sources that DW is trying to land a top 6 foward.
It is possible that waiving Nitty is a precursor to such a deal, i.e. clearing out dead cap space for that move. Of course DW would have love to get something for him, but if there is no trade value, there is no trade value.
For example, if DW is on the verge of acquiring someone with the cap hit of someone like Semin (not saying Semin, just someone in that cap hit range), moving/waiving/dump Nitty would have to be done prior to acquiring that guy.
In what universe would DW possibly have received anything of value in return for a perpetually injured goalie who's terrible when he's actually in the lineup and carries a cap hit of $2mil?
Good move, hopefully he gets picked up. And hopefully Handzus is the next to be waived.
His cap hit at this point is around $1mil and I'm sure Wilson would've moved him for a 7th...and regarding Handzus - I get it, you hate him and think he's the worst player ever but they CAN'T waive Handzus (w/o his permission) so you should probably move past that.

Thought it was an NTC. Guess not. That's brutal. I don't think he's the worst player ever but there's more than enough evidence that he's been by far the worst regular Shark this season.
I see DW doing that only if he has a guarantee from a team they'd pick him up as he won't waste the NHL roster space.
I'm sure we'll send McCarthy, Wingels and possibly even waive Ferriero to make room for returning players. I doubt Niitty was related to that, more likely to 1) Do the right thing and 2) Clear a contract spot and cap space for a top-6 player.
I know it's illogical, and we all have these great hopes of who it will be, but in the back of my mind I have this fear he's going to go after Semin heh.
