Would you consider Voynov an all-star?

Looking at some of the rookies selected to the ASG....I don't really think it's a stretch that Voynov could have been selected.

Looking at it statistically..

Diaz: 45gp 3g 11a 14p -3 22 Pims
Nick Johnson: 45gp 6g 10a 16p +5 31 pims
Ryan Johansen 42gp 9g 8a 17p +5 20 pims

Voynov: 31gp 4g 7a 11p +4 6 pims

If you put Voynov up to 45 games he has about similar numbers. 14 more games he has about 5-6 more points.

Honestly even at this stage I think you easily could have selected Voynov over Diaz.

also Diaz TOI: 18:54
Voynov TOI: 18:11

roughly the same

I am not like pissed at all or anything like that. Just occurred to me today when I saw Diaz was a replacement and I thought...hm...I wonder if Voynov was ever taken into serious consideration. Probably not.

Thoughts?

If he had been with the team from the start he would be.

Johnson is probably just there to be the token Minnesota rep with Mikko Koivu out. Johansen is the lone Columbus rep. Diaz maybe gets the nod because he's been up all season / Montreal fans might care more / cheaper plane flight for Diaz than Voynov.

Yea I totally agree with your other two...just lone reps.

Diaz though, I think you could make a serious case that Voynov is having a better year. I'll defer to Telos, if he'd played 40+ games he'd be there.

Yeah, likely a game thing. But I'd have to think both Voynov for the young guns and Kopitar for the actual ASG itself have to both be on the bubble to be put in if another injury or drop out occurred.

Likely the best though that Voynov get a rest.

didnt voynov will the speed skating contest in the ahl asg?

I could have sworn he did, or maybe he participated in it

Anyway, voynov is a beast, but he's still young and makes occasional mistakes. I think in the future he will be a top 4 dman. He's fast, can qb the puck, and has a rocket shot. Oh did i mention he can play d too? If voynov was a little bit taller, o m g

He won it. Fastest skater there that year.

NOt only did he win it, but his time was better than the winner from the NHL's allstar game
