Also, not singling out anybody, but I've heard many complain about other regional broadcast teams for their bias and, to me, that makes it hypocritical. Just because the bias is, for once, on our side doesn't make it better or any less annoying.

Furthermore, I think the TV personalities who have the most credibility (in my opinion, anyway) are the ones who are able to put their personal preferences aside. To that effect, and this probably won't be the most popular thing I've ever said on these boards, I was just discussing with my brother a couple of days ago how much Nick Kypreos has improved in that regard. The last 2 or 3 years, he's been improving constantly. Francois Gagnon and Renaud Lavoie are doing good things but sadly will remain stuck in the Montreal vaccuum.

Anyway, I know their purposes are different, but while I respect Potvin's body of work as a player, I can't say the same for his work in the booth.
I agree with most of this, although he does provide some entertaining lines

holy crap. Hockey is entertainment. Potvin is entertaining.

Assuming that the colour commentator can influence the minds and hearts of an entire fanbase into delusional thought is overly simplistic.

Folks need to relax. And then again, Ottawa fans often wonder why everyone thinks we're boring.

pls tell me she doesnt actually comment on sports for a living, let alone have anyone 'follow' her.

good grief, can i just say out loud 'i would like to write sports for a living' and someone will give me a job pretending to work for a living?
is that how it works?
She works for NHL.com as the "journalist" that covers the Senators. Meanwhile, she took down her personal blog where all she did was take potshots at the Senators organization.

And FYI, she's her own biggest mark. She truly believes she's the greatest journalist in the world when the reality is she's a talentless hack. When you can't even cut it writing for the Ottawa Sun, you know you're worthless.

As someone who knows his family personally and many things about him, I'd like the Drunk Denis comments to cease.. He is by no means a drunk. It's pretty insulting, it's also slanderous and could potentially get the site in trouble because there is no basis for such accusations..

I agree. I hate branding him a drunk, speaks to the maturity of many here. They guy is a HOF and he sticks up for his team, just like EVERY of ther colour guy.

I wasn't crazy about Denis when he first started but he has grown on me.
Like any job he is finding his "comfort zone" and works well with Dean.
Denis brings insight to the game that an ex-player (and particularly an ex- defenseman) has that a "hockey insider" can't. His comments pertaining to the young defense of the Sens and what they are going through is particularly strong.
Denis makes mistakes but who doesn't!!

I like Potvin, didn't so much at first but he's gotten better this season. Him and Dean Brown are a great combo. He's a little biased because he's a regional broadcaster.

I like him. He's funny and definitely spices up the broadcast.

Folks are taking themselves and the game way too seriously. It's supposed to be fun.

a lot of the things he says are inaccurate and a lot of the time he doesn't make sense.

in other words, he is not a good commentator. he has a nice voice though.

He's probably the biggest homer we've ever had.

I disagree. I understand almost everything he says, even when I have to make a leap to get there, and he is usually right on the money. I guess I just speak his language. Those who do seem to really like him, those that don't, well, they don't.

When I consume entertainment I want to be entertained, which Potvin is great at. When I want drab even keeled discussion, I come here!

A: Denis Potvin is top 5 D-Men of all time
B: Knows more about the intricacies of the game then any of us could possibly ever imagine.

I like Gary Galley but he chose to leave Sportsnet for family and other reasons. I wish the CBC would put him on the Ottawa broadcast more often though.

Potvin had nothing to do with Galley leaving and griping abut him is not going to bring Galley back.

Anyway now I find I am more interested in hearing what Potvin has to say anyway.

He is no more a homer than our radio announce crew but he seems to see the games from the point of view of a player. He has interesting insights and lots of competitive fire and maybe that puts some people off but I like it and I'm glad he's our guy.
