2012 WHL Draft prospects

After Matthew Barzal there are a lot of names out there of some great players. I have scouted at the Mainland Cup, Alberta Cup (Calgary), and Challenge Cup. My last stint this spring will be at Subway Classic in Winnipeg. So far I like.

Goalies: McBride, Pomagratz
Defense: Browne, Davis, Winters, Mills
Forwards: Merkely, Morrison, Gawdun, Schmyr, Holowaty, Soy, Seto

Great picks Valley. I agree Barzal is hands down #1 at this point. I've been working the the USA (Meltdown, Independant Classic, Cougar Classic & District Camps), Manitoba (Directors Cup, WCBC, Source for Sports) and Saskatchewan (Notre Dame Showcase).

so far creme of the crop ... after Barzal ... (in no particular order)

Goalies: McBride, Holden, Sarthou
Defense: Bear, Schultz, Groot, Fauber, Texiera, Woolfenden
Forwards: Price, Gabrielle, Estephan, Seto, Gardiner, Mehr, Halbgewachs, Conrad, Zimmer, Thompson

Can't wait till Subway when the Minnesota and Manitoba teams mix it up with the BC and SK teams ... BC and Alberta 97's were impressive last time out here facing the SK and Manitoba 96 teams ... will be interesting to see the clash of 97's. Pepsi and Crunch teams in Manitoba are strong, as are the 2 teams coming up from Minnesota. Zimmer is playing with SK and they competed well with top BC teams in Challenge Cup. Subway (Now North American Classic) should be the elite event of the season and a nice way to cap off the spring.

Too bad no Alberta teams are coming though ... usually get a nice entry from Edmonton and a couple teams from Calgary area. The absence of Alberta teams does take a little of the shine off this event, as does the absence of Barzal ... but maybe he'll suprise us and land on one of these BC rosters yet ...

I was told about a kid named Jansen Harkins. Is he any good or was this guy just pumping a local kids tires?

Seems like he might be pretty good. Jansen Harkins got named to the British Columbia First All-Star team along with projected first overall pick Matt Barzal.

Harkins is the son of former Calgary Flames forward Todd Harkins.

He is a sure fire first rounder, and recently has been pushing into the top 10 in some reports.

Harkins stock is rising fast. Our most up to date list has him as a solid first rounder. The Royals would do well to grab a great local talent like Harkins.
