Selanne?

I know the Ducks are saying that Selanne will retire in anaheim, but if he was moved, LA has to be a candidate if we elect to be buyers one would think.

DL and Sutter were the Gm and Head Coach in San jose when he went there years ago, and we are looking for a speedy goalscorer. Considering his love for California, you'd have to think he'd be ineterested in coming here.

I'm not saying we'd be front runners (San jose would look better for the same reasons) but what are your thoughts on bringing in the Finnish Flash?

It would be a PR nightmare for Anaheim to trade Selanne, especially to LA.

I wouldn't say no, But I bet the Ducks would. Also I woudln't be willing to give up any assests to the Ducks(unless Bobby Ryan was coming the other way).

Yeah I'm sure there would be a riot.

Yeah all 18 of them.

I think if he decides he wants to do one last Cup run, he'll probably choose a better team than the Kings and the Ducks will probably get offered a better return elsewhere. Just my guess but I don't believe him not coming to LA would have anything to do with PR.

If Selanne asks for a trade, I think Detroit would be a destination for him.

I'm sure the Ducks fans would be up in arms at the Ponda about it. Would be nice to nab him though

Disagree. First, they dealt him out of there once already and survived, and this time around they aren't trading him when he has a decade left in his career.

Second, if you spin anything right, you can do it. Trading Selanne to LA sounds terrible. Trading Selanne to a destination of his choice in the hopes of wrapping up his Hall of Fame career by raising the cup one more time sounds better.

I think the bigger issue would be from our standpoint as we'd have to give up a good asset or two to Anaheim to get Selanne, and unless we won the cup, we'd hear about it for years if those assets came back to be key cogs for Anaheim.

Dean has traded for Selšnne before, and wasn't exactly happy with the results.

Teemu's has been underwhelming in his short stints outside of Anaheim/Winnipeg.

I like it for a cup run. The guy was awesome in the playoffs last year and he can score goals.

There's no way Selanne ends up a king. I just can't see it. If anything, he'll accept a trade to anywhere BUT the kings imo.

Having said that, I think Winnipeg would be the ideal choice for Selanne.

You are talking about three years in a 19 year career, and two of those seasons he still managed 29 and 28 goals respectfully. All three are consequtive and pre-lockout as well. I'd weigh his 650+ career goals as being more indicative of his play than two so-so and one bad year eight years ago.

I agree the Jets are possible, but ideal? They aren't even in the playoffs right now. If Teemu leaves Anaheim, it's to go to a cup contender, or at least a playoff team. If he wants a tour down memory lane he could just go and sign in Winnipeg in the off-season and play one last year as the centre of the universe, which he would be in Winnipeg.

As long as we're not parting with too much in a potential deal, I can't see a situation where we say no. He's exactly what we're missing.

That being said, Anaheim would not be willing to move him across town.

I think he's going to wind up in Detroit.

Didn't say I wouldn't LOVE to have him, but it was worth pointing out.

...And if we're going for a player of Selenne's ilk, I'd rather have MSL.

Selanne may be retiring after the season, which is the only reason he'd be available. I doubt MSL would be moved as he's not retiring and is a decade-long Lightning member.

As if Selanne was a realistic option.

Selanne will never be a King. That's a 100% guarantee.

He may end up a Red Wing by the end of Feb., but don't put it past the Winnipeg Jets to trade for him to create a feel-good retirement tour for their fans.

The phone lines are jammed on ESPN 710 when all Marcellus Wiley and Max Kellerman want to talk about is the blockbuster trade between the Kings and the Ducks. Jim Hill headlines SportsCentral on CBS2 with Selanne wearing a Kings uniform.
