Standings after 47 games

I made this to compare Rangers vs Rangers after 47 played games:

93/94 NY Rangers 32-12-3 67
11/12 NY Rangers 31-12-4 66
95/96 NY Rangers 28-11-8 64
05/06 NY Rangers 26-14-7 59
08/09 NY Rangers 27-16-4 58
99/00 NY Rangers 20-17-7-3 57*
10/11 NY Rangers 26-18-3 55
03/04 NY Rangers 18-18-7-4 54*
-----------------------------------------
01/02 NY Rangers 22-19-3-3 53*
96/97 NY Rangers 23-18-6 52
09/10 NY Rangers 22-18-7 51
06/07 NY Rangers 23-20-4 50
07/08 NY Rangers 22-20-5 49
02/03 NY Rangers 18-22-6-1 49*
1995 NY Rangers 22-22-3 47
00/01 NY Rangers 19-24-3-1 45*
98/99 NY Rangers 18-22-7 43
97/98 NY Rangers 15-20-12 42

(* adjusted for 1 extra point per overtime win)

Obviously a good argument for the Fire Torts Bus, but not too shabby after all.

If you add an additional column with goaltender(s) sv% by the end of 47 game period I can bet you will discover the trend that is by far more significant than any particular coach.

Why is this a good argument for the "Fire Torts Bus"? Your numbers show, and anyone who watches the games can see, that both Torts and the Rangers have done nothing but improve in each of his years here.

With that being said, I REALLY like seeing this:

93/94 NY Rangers 32-12-3 67
11/12 NY Rangers 31-12-4 66
95/96 NY Rangers 28-11-8 64
05/06 NY Rangers 26-14-7 59

Very good company to be in, all solid Rangers teams. Except for that 93/94 team, bunch of scrubs

You're right, the coaches have nothing to do with how the team plays an overall game on a nightly basis.

You can honestly argue that it's just a one-way street, that Henrik himself has not benefited from a teamwide solid defensive performance in front of him?

Just want to add:

It's a reason why it's called a team = several people contributes towards a common goal

Hell, i was on the fence with Torts, but I've since come to think he's a huge part of why this team is successful.

Well there's all these comparisons to '94, and obviously I have to take 94's offense by alot but this team's D and goaltending is a sight to behold.

And people will say it's all about Hank, and other lost souls will say Hank is overrated and it's all about the D, but really it's everyone. Every one of the near dozen defensemen we've used and both of our goalies have been over the top. It's a group effort and I think our GA column really speak to that.

He didnt say that the coach trend is non existent he said that the goalie sv % is MORE significant. Dunno if I agree with that but point is you sound like a total ****.

At any rate Fire Torts bus evidence + 2nd best points total since 94 yea I think he was being sarcastic...

It's beautiful.

I really don't want to buy into this and say we're contenders, though. I do, but then I don't.

The playoffs will tell us who we are.

Yes, I can. Just opposite is true. Due to stellar Lundqvist performance this season the team gains a necessary confidence that allows it to score and win. Same frustrates the opponents and leads them to loses. Sure it is important to to play 5 skater defence, block shots, etc. But I would buy this only should team defence get better by a mile compared to previous seasons. You give this year Lundqvist to whoever, to Campbell or Trotier and we will would look awful good.
What I can credit to Torts is his demand for athletic conditioning, work ethic and passion in everyday affairs. But that is what many coaches used to do. Lundqvist is the reason. Same as Richter was in 1993/4 or Lundqvist in 2005/6. Don't get me wrong, I know who and what J.Jagr was, but we are on top with Richards minimal contribution, terrible PP, and so-so Gaborik. Both Richards and Gaborik are playing for 4.5-5.0 million a year making much more, while Lundqvist is worth 10 and over.
