USA Today: 'Malkin filling in amply in Crosby's absence'

Quote:
Shero said NHL Network analyst Craig Button summarized Malkin's play best. "Craig said, 'It's skill and will,' and that's exactly right," Shero said.
Quote:
"If you voted for MVP right now, it would be Evgeni Malkin, Jonathan Toews and Henrik Lundqvist right at the top of most people's lists," NBC analyst Pierre McGuire said. "Pavel Datsyuk might be in that grouping as well. But Malkin has been off the charts."

Good article, he always seems to get lost in Sid's shadow. His star is bright now.

,,,,nice they included Datsyuk's name. The Redwings fans would be livid.

"Amply"? Really? It's just a tad clunky sounding for my taste.

I was thinking the same thing. Seemed a weird word choice to use in a title.

I agree. Granted, strange headlines usually are the result of writing to fill space in the print edition of the publciation, but still, that's bad.

But not as awkward as this ...

Quote:
He has done exactly that, netting 17 goals and 34 points in 21 games since Crosby left to become the NHL's scoring leader and its hottest player going into the All-Star weekend in Ottawa.
... which very easily can be read as "... Crosby left to become the NHL's scoring leader and is ..."

Yeah, the wording is awkward, but pretty much on par for newspapers. Still, great article in a national publication with a nod to being a top choice for MVP honors.

USA Today is the CNN of newspapers... which is to say, crappy writing and half-assed reporting. But great atflinging a bunch of celebrity soundbites, half-baked charts and statistics and other crap at us to keep us "engaged and entertained."

I damn near read that as "enraged and entertained". I think 'enraged' would be more appropriate, really.

That's more Fox's business.

Watching CNN is the equivalent of sticking a hose attachment from a vacuum into your ear and turning it on.

It's a shame...once they were the best place to go for 'neutral' news...and now they're more interested in tweeting and flashy graphics...damn, they really are the perfect equivalent for USA Today.
