Purinton might be named Captain in Hartford

Quote:
the Pack haven't found a veteran to fill the leadership void and make others accountable.Defenseman Dale Purinton could fill the role, but he was often recalled to work off a 10-game NHL suspension and missed 20 games with a knee injury before returning Friday in Syracuse. Schoenfeld hinted Purinton might succeed Gernander since he is likely to be in Hartford for a while

Purinton is signed for next season-2006-97

He's signed through next season? I thought he was done at the end of this one. Well--give him a C and maybe he'll settle down. You can always take it back.

He signed a three year deal
2004-05-$650,000
-------------------------------------
2005-06-$675,000/$513,000 after 24%
2006-07-$700,000/$532,000 after 24%

$522,500 cap number

The Rangers thought the NHL was going to have a dispersal draft and they needed to expose x amount of signed players which is why Jason Strudwick was given a two year deal-04-05 and 05-06

You would figure with all the other players in Hartford soneone else beside Dale could be given the C. He can't fill Gernander's shoes.

Anything that suggests that Purinton is still respected by the organization in any way is a bad sign to me. If making him the captain of the Pack means he will never be called up to the big team then I am all for it, but if it is indicative of any sort of perceived value of him by management then I hate it.

He's always been a good team guy. A guess a C in Hartford more or less means he's gonna stay there.

send him to Checkers, I dont want Liffiton or Taylor learning from him, especially attacking players from behind. Id say give Wiseman the C or Giroux. Rangers should have resigned Nycholat, Id take him over Dale as captain.

I remember a lot of Purinton incidents, I don't remember him attacking anyone from behind

I think he's a logical fit for captain

Lol, if anything he's a licensed eye-gouger.

Please send Marcel down there too. A step down in HFD may be the slower pace he needs to get some confidence with the puck. I say send him down for a month to two months and then call him up and evaluate him from there. Give him a few weeks and if he still lollygags with one hand on stick just cut ties with him. Why can't he receive the same treatment as Fedorov and Taffe?

Has to pass through waivers which he would most likely not, and I doubt he would accept a 2 week conditioning stint.

At the end of the game vs the Islanders a few years ago, he attacked Jason Blake from behind, and he also dropped the gloves with Cairns while Cairns was not looking.

No team scouting the right way would waste their time picking up Hossa.

I think Hossa gets picked up....

there's always someone out there for a talented, young, decent-sized and cheap winger.

Erstwhile Rangers defenseman Dale Purinton, who has one goal, three assists and 25 penalty minutes in nine games this season for Hartford (AHL), is now out six weeks with a broken right pinkie

I think he's got talent, but he probably will not be signed by the Rangers since I believe they are very close to the 50 contract limit... that is the limit right?

Plus the possibility of kids like Callahan, Pyatt, Sauer, Paiement, etc. being signed in the offseason, it's really a numbers game..., depends on who the Rangers choose to sign in the offseason, he should get a look...

I really think they should consider signing Gherson to a contract, seeing as beyond Montoya there really isn't much depth at the moment in goaltending...

Why does the captain have to be someone who's gonna stay in Hartford? They should give the C to the guy who deserves it, not the guy who's just good enough to be around for a long time but not good enough to be brought up. The 'C' should be a mark of a leader and a player to watch in the ahl, not some eye-gouging jerk who's paid his dues long enough for a particular franchise.
