James Neal

this kid is tearing it up right now and is only 24 years old. Hes obviously not going to get traded anytime soon, but *if he were available* what would your GM/Team offer up for him?

It seems ridiculous to think of trading him, but if he keeps lighting it up, negotiations aren't going to be easy.

If Neal's RFA rights+top prospect brings us Bobby Ryan, I'd be cool with it.

Me too!

it's safe to say, he's going to get a similar contract as Ryan's is..maybe little little less.. anything under 5M per would be very good contract IMO.

But I can't see Neal not resigning..Shero will do his magic once again

If it comes down to it, excessive salary (Martin) will be moved to accomodate Neal. Shero isn't letting him get away. Hopefully he can get him to sign a reasonable deal though.

Lol he's not getting 6 mil. Contract length will ensure that if necessary

Agreed.

I don't think Neal is going to get more than $5 million, though.

Neal is worth more to the Pens than any other team in the league.

It's analogous to Lupul in Toronto. Came to a new team, found chemistry with an elite player, performed better than he ever has before.

Playing with one of the best players in the world helps a lot. Can a Pens fan answer how much of his success has been because of Malkin? I don't watch many Pens games. From the few I've watched, Malkin has just dominated.

They've both complemented each other extremely well. Neal's not the kind of player who'll create much offense on his own, but he finishes off a lot of Malkin's plays that would've ended up frittered away by a lesser scorer (ie any other forward on the Pens roster outside of Sid).

Your textbook elite center/sniper combination.

Malkin gives him the opportunity to snipe... And Neal snipes

that is the best way to put it haha. I mean, Geno obviously gives him lots of opportunities but its not like Neal's goal's are backdoor tap-ins. Neal's assist totals are inflated because of Geno but his goals are mostly earned.

Yeah, not that it affects his value in any way. He's looked great on Malkin's wing and boy has Malkin looked scary this year.

Not at all, to Pittsburgh anyway. You need an elite center to get the most out of Neal...but we have elite centers, so he's perfect.

If they can lock up Neal for less than 5 Mil over an extended period of time, I would be ecstatic.

He was so snake-bitten last season. He was doing everything right last year, just like this year, except he was just in a scoring slump.

He's just got that "IT" factor now.
