I've never understood why anyone cares about this game, let alone watches it.

It used to be a great game many years ago, when the reigning Stanley Cup champs played a team of the best of the rest of the league.

This sounds cool.

They should make it worth something, like home ice advantage.

Not unless they fix how the voting is done to make it more merit based. Then it takes away from the fans. Why can't we just keep it as is?

All star weekend is a great thing. It is a great environment and alot of fun for the fans. I know this because I was at the All-star weekend when it was here in Atlanta and I had a blast.

Oh my god, no.

The fact that MLB home field is decided by the friggin all-star game rather than the merits of the two teams in the world series is absolutely absurd.

I pray that never happens in hockey.

I don't care if the all-star game means nothing. I'd rather it didn't even exist. To give it more importance would be silly. All Star weekend should be a skills competition with NHL all stars, and then maybe schedule it so that the WJC finals are that Sunday, or have an Old Stars Legends game. Or just add an all star skills competition to the Winter Classic weekend. The skills competition is more exciting than the game.

I actually enjoy the ASG.

Yeah it isn't real hockey, but I enjoy seeing most of the stars of the league out there playing together and putting on a show for the fans. Its all in good fun, and atleast looks like these guys enjoy it.

And no to home ice advantage, Baseball is dumb for doing that.

Agreed.

Now that I think about it, my initial point was stupid. No to home ice advantage in the ASG.

People watch it because it is hockey. Real hockey fans will watch any sort of hockey available to them whether it be game 7 Olympics high school hockey all star game.

A game with no hitting, little defense and picked by the players is going to decide home ice advantage?

Its not hockey. There's no hitting, no passion and little defense.

Which means it isn't as exciting as a regular game, sure, but I like to see the best players have the chance to put their skill on full display without having to worry about getting bench for turning the puck over.

Plus, there are always some funny moments. I'll never forget Owen Nolan pointing at Hasek.

I believe he was pointing to the top corner of the net, calling his shot. And he nailed it. Great moment.

They have on skates and equipment, and are using sticks. Therefore they are playing hockey. Just because its not NHL caliber hockey doesn't mean its not hockey.

Maybe not the kind of hockey that you enjoy but it is in fact hockey.

Hockey played by the most talented players on the planet for fun.

So you don't consider any kind of shiny, hockey?

The point was to inspire the players to play "real" hockey if there was something at stake.

If you read my earlier post, I said my initial idea was stupid.

I guess i'll watch it today on account of us having 3 representatives. Just to make sure Gaborik doesn't get hurt.

the All Star Game and Pro Bowl within a 24 hour period might just be too much garbage sports for me to take, though.

Just hoping that Hank stops everything, Gabby doesn't score on him, G becomes the first Rangers d man to score in the ASG, and doesn't block too many shots.
