First of all he's paid like a number one center. Secondly, even if we look at him as a number two center he should at the very least be putting up double digit goals. There's absolutely no excuse to have a donut after 50 games. It's an embarassment to him and those that traded away Ryan McD for him.

And he's not doing that either...
I remember clear as day when we made this deal and folks defended the trade. Many of them out there kept saying how I'd be eating my words in three years... well, three years have gone by and Gomez has been worse than even I expected. Moreover, the kid we traded him for is already on the top pairing on the club with the best record in the league.
The only trade that may come out worse so far since the lockout are ones made by the Leafs. The Rask trade (which was similar to the Gomez one in which the GM needlessly overpaid for a guy coming off a dreadful year) could be the worst. The Kessel for Seguin one might be even worse that that but at least they got Kessel out of it. For us, we got saddled with a guy who's turned out to be a piss poor 2nd line center (nevermind being a 1st) and tying us down with a dumb contract. Moreover, the prospect we lost in this fiasco could sorely be used on our blueline right now.
At least it wouldn't be so bad if Gomez was putting up 70 points but it's like he just didn't care about anything. He doesn't score and doesn't put up any kind of points. He fails routinely on backchecking assignments... it's horrible. And yes, he's paid to SCORE too.
That's why this is so depressing. And it's why there's going to be a party for his one year anniversary of scoring a goal. Montreal is a circus at the best of times but when you start making absolutely stupid moves like this one, it just gets worse.
