I honestly don't understand threads like this Benn is the type of player that fits on any team rebuilding contender ect. You just don't trade him. You have to give up Kelser or Edler plus IMO. If you are a Canucks fan and you are offering anything Less then Edler or Kesler + you are wasting your time.

Forgot Schneider, Edler, and the Sedins. I still wouldn't do it, though.

Still got that Raymond, Schneider and Ballard package floating around out there.

But seriously, Benn's not coming here for spare parts any more than Weber or Perry is.

As a 'nucks fan:

We don't really need Benn, we need a (proven) top 4 D-men.

Benn is a good player & will be great but there is NO way I'd give up Kes or Edler for him. We are trying to win NOW

I can understand that but there is no way Dallas would give Benn up for anything less. If Dallas is a playoff team they need Benn. If they are a rebuilding team they still would need Benn. He's young he's just the type of player you don't trade.

Do you really think if Dallas was called about Benn they care about the other teams playoff hopes. Do you think they care if the players they ask for in return are part of the core. None of that is Dallas's problem. He's a player that they have no desire to trade.

As I am a nucks fan and Benn is unreal i'd love this but realistically we could give up less than Ed or Kes so pass.

Stars are now owned by Gaglardi who is on bad terms with the ownership of Canucks. I doubt the two teams are eager to talk.

Is that the new Ryder + Halak + 2nd?

Edit: I see others have made the same joke, I don't feel so original after all

Why would Dallas move Jamie Benn? Even if they go full blown rebuild, he's very very young and a guy they would rebuild with. Rebuild doesn't mean gut your team of all its talent and bring in talentless players. Rebuild means bring in younger players and develop them together. Benn is the type of player they would try to acquire in a rebuild, but since they already have him there's no way he's moving.

Did I say they'd give him up for anything less?
Did I say any of it was Dallas' problem

Keep Benn! I'd rather keep Edler/Kesler because we are in a win now mode.

IMO, if Dallas rebuilds, the only reason they trade Benn would to get more for him than Benn alone would do for a rebuild, like pick up a few 1sts, and a prospect or something.

Alright we might as well lock this up.

I got my answer (i.e. Edler and Benn are about equal in value). I fully expected people to not read my first post and ramble on.

No way in hell this is happening given the fact we have tons of forward depth and a need on defence.

However, it would be nice to see some more players who were born in BC come to Vancouver (i.e. Benn, Kane, Garrison, Alzner, Weber, Georges) like Hamhuis.

The chances of the picks or prospects turning out as good as Benn is not likely. They would just trade their older vets for picks and prospects unless someone is will to give them the #1 overall pick plus it still wouldn't make sense.

It's Kessler or bust. I love Edler but I still think Vancouver would need to add. Benn is going to be a #1C in this league for years to come.

I'm not trying to be a dick but seriously, what is the point of threads like this? The value may as well be infinity because there's literally no way the Stars would trade Benn for any offer an NHL team would realistically make.

No way benn has more value than kesler to a win now team.
i love benn heck i know his sister as im from Vic.

But what he is on the verge of doing this year for the first time kesler had DONE in back to back years.

Kesler is coming back from surgery and having a sub par ytd. The reason is he BEASTED it up through 4 rounds of the playoffs something benn has never even played in let alone basicaly won a round solo.

Like i said earlier 2 years from now if benn continues his rise in production sure he might be a better player than kesler but today he is not.

I don't mean to nitpick, but what is the point of a bunch of goons on a message board making trade proposals, period?

The value could be bang on, but there is literally no way that any amount of inane chatter on here is going to realistically influence what goes on between two NHL GMs.

We're talking about right now, not what either has done in the past two years.

And Benn is well-known for his amazing playoff performances. His Memorial Cup run? Two years ago where he led Texas to the Calder Cup finals?

Ask anyone who's better right now. Not many will pick Kesler.
