unless you're using some ridiculous programs that require hella computation, 2^32 different values is all your OS is gonna need.

I have no idea what the context is here, but c'mon. Who cares what the context is.

So like... how do you review a music album? I need to fill two pages.

It's not that tough, what kind of album do you have to review?

The simplest way to go about it:
- Use the first two paragraphs to give some background of the artist or group.

- Then just do a track-by-track review, occasionally emphasizing what kind of mood or pace the songs are setting for the album. The mood explanation can also be used as a great segue when starting on a new track, ex: "[artist name] slows down the pace with, '[insert track name]', by infusing together a perfect blend of classic folk and modern electronica."

- When the track-by-track analysis is done, use one paragraph to describe the shortcomings followed by a paragraph describing the positives (basically which songs were crap and which ones were good).

- The last paragraph should pretty much be a final verdict. ex: "Overall, the album was blah blah.... While there are some bright spots, the album leaves little to the imagination, and fails to spark any emotion..."

Some buzz words to consider..."invoke", "passion", "frenzy", "haunting", "gritty", "rustic", "sublime", "divine"...grab a thesaurus and you should be fine.

Don't try to be a wordsmith, reviews should be about informing the reader, not about being a psuedo-classical-literature-maestro.

I want to take issue with this. Thesauruses are a writer's worst enemy. It's far too easy to end up picking a word that doesn't really fit the situation because Thesauruses will not give you the context of their assortment of synonyms. I'm a big believer that you should only vary the vocabulary in your writing as far as you are able to accomplish on your own.

I have seen a ton of perfectly capable writers shoot themselves in the foot by leaning on a thesaurus.

If I can use college student writing to infer the level that the average person who gets out of high school english classes writes with, that's not really saying much.

A thesaurus might get you through a class that doesn't expect much, or gives you points for trying to be wordy, but they will not necessarily make you write well. Not unless you already know what you're doing.

Thanks for that. Reviewing The Bends. The problem is that I have to do that as if it's 1995 and compare it to other stuff that was released as well, so I gotta do more research.

If you run out of material but don't have enough try quoting from songs. Not only do the lyrics take up space but then you can go say stuff like "the artist was making a comparison to the plight of villagers in Sub-Saharan Africa, etc etc". That is, assuming this album has lyrics.

If it has no lyrics and it is jazz or classical I guess you could talk about the different instruments and the moods accomplished at different parts of each piece. If it's dance/techno/etc and they sample from other artists you could tangentially review the other songs that were sampled.

edit: I'm at work and kept getting distracted, didn't realize how long it took me to write all of this.

Sounds like a weird project. With this album going track-by-track will be too long, you would be better off lumping tracks together based on mood.

I'm with you, thesauruses won't help a real writer, but when you have to express your opinion in a short concise manner, you have to rely on buzz words to try to make the review sound interesting. The quickest way is to use a thesaurus and half a brain when determining the context of that word.

I'm a man of a few words, so it won't be a problem but I probably will lump them because it's Radiohead and God knows what the **** they are really singing about ... (as much as I like em)

I was curious so looked it up. Ultimate(Tempest Arc), Sinister tries to kill a bunch of mutants due to a delusion that he was ordered to, Xavier being one of them.

Sometimes it's a lot more fun to do reviews when you hate the album or artist. Be careful you don't come off as an annoying fanboy who's bj skills start to rival Jenna Jameson's.

Haha, nah I'm far from a RH fanboy. I like their (early) music but I find Yorke to be highly pretentious. But that's a Radiohead decal anyway so they're all pretentious fanboys in there. Wait til I tell them Muse is better. /trollface

Any metalheads around here that have heard LOGs newest, Resolution? Awesome ****. I was almost ready to give up on this band after how awful Wrath was, but I sure as hell am glad now that I didn't.

Back when Wrath was released, I listened to it for a few days and thought it was amazing. But the more I listened it, the more I came to realise how **** it was compared to LOGs previous albums.

I had my fears of having to put LOG to my graveyard of great bands.

- In Flames, last 2/3 albums ****.
- The Haunted, last few albums ****.
- All That Remains, last album ****.
- Soilwork, last album ****.

Who do I need to kill to get LOG to Finland?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I hate writing and suck at it. Probably makes my previous post make much more sense.
