Even though he's unlikely to get shopped, maybe Eller is a player that could be a piece to land us either a higher first or another first, but what would he fetch from, say, Chicago?
Considering my boy Eller is slowly replacing Pleks in shutting down the opposition, I don't think they're looking to deal him.
Hypothetically speaking, I don't see a team dealing a first for him. He's the typical "Worth more to his current team than another team"
Agreed entirely. Most teams wouldn't offer anything near what the Habs think he's currently worth to the team. Doesn't hurt that he's also a kid himself. No guarantee you find someone to replace his skillset.
Chicago or Phoenix would be potential takers for Eller (or Plekanec).
I believe that Pleks is more likely to be traded than Eller is. But not this year, maybe at next years deadline. Slowly Eller is taking over that shut down role and doing quite well. Another year and Pleks might be expendable...

Unless they can get a top line center back, trading him makes little sense. He's finally starting to show some of that potential they saw when they traded him and he currently fits into the future core for them moving forward since he's young.
Unless Montreal is doing a full blown rebuild, there is no point in trading a decent young player for an unknown first round "potential" player. Eller is not a bust, and even with first round drafted players there is no guarantee they will become productive players. Montreal should keep Eller unless its to upgrade elsewhere with another young player coming back.

Wouldn't be too interested in Eller. Good defensive player, but I think Montreal would be asking for more than he's worth, and understandably. What would Montreal be asking for Plekanec?

The asking price for Plekanec is likely to be rather steep, no matter what.

What about Girgensons? Surely Girgensons would be available anywhere near an "early-teens" pick. But, if the Leafs' first really was worth Eller, the Leafs would finally get back the player they traded away for Toskala+Bell.

Yup, sorry forgot about Girgensons, not really as high on him as the others though. Regardless too many D, not enough F in the draft class, so if none are available i'd assume the Leafs first is in play.
Actually, a guy like Eller is shopped from a contender. Not for a team that's non-playoff bound after the ASG.
But as somebody said, if the Habs get at some point of the draft where an absolute stud isn't drafted (there really aren't many of them -- Dumba and Trouba, that's it), I'd trade Eller for him.
I personally think Eller has Jordan Staal potential
like someone mentionned previously, pending how we draft and who we draft, Plekanec will probably be traded a year or 2 from now to make space for the Hopefully drafted large center
People think he's good, it's time to trade him before they know how he plays for real...
Do you even watch habs games or did you just sign up to bash the habs? How can he be a defensive liability when the coaches keep matching him up against the opposing team's best lines?
You also have no idea that he is an offensive bust. He has already passed his point totals from last season in 30 less games with zero powerplay time. He's on pace for 30ES points in only his second season, how is that an offensive bust especially when he's 22?
