Kessel would have to step his game way up if he wants to hit 500 and get consideration for the Hall of Fame.
Kessel also has 43% more goals (with 33 games remaining) scored than Hejduk by the same age.

Teemu is a hockey marvel...the guy is over 40 and still producing almost a ppg....he is freaking amazing. One of my faves. He is going straight to the HOF. Without a doubt. As much as I like Phil, he has a long way to go before he can be compared to the great Finn.

Bolded are the ones likely to hit that threshold again this year.

I gave the benefit of the doubt to Iginla (on pace for 30), Marleau (on pace for 30) and Nash (on pace for 29).

Very select company. And impressive considering Kessel is the youngest of them all.

I sincerely hope the HoF stuff was tongue-in-cheek.
Not impressive is that around his age most of those players had hit 40 or 50 goals.

You sure?
Marleau hit 40 at like 28, Ryan has never hit 40, Iginla hit 50 at 25 (1x 31 goal season previously), Carter hit 44 at 24, Nash hit 40 twice by 28.

He is no kovy or ovy, or crosby, but he is definitely on the list.

In fact from 1995-2012 Kessel's 154 by Age 24 is the 9th highest total of ALL nhl players

Top 10
Ovy 269
Kovy 225
Crosby 178
Nash 177g
Iginla 174g
Staal 164g
Malkin 158g
Thornton 157g
KESSEL 154g

This is way ahead of names like hossa gaborik, perry, ryan, carter, Marleau, Lecavalier, Parise, Vanek, hedjuk etc.

By the end of the year he could easily get to 6th behind iginla..... obviously 20 goals is probably out of reach but if he was a little healthier and played with better players for his first 125 games as a leaf he may have even had a chance at being 3rd behind ahead of crosby

Ya because Kessel only had one good season.. HOF talk is way too early obviously but that wasn't close to what the OP said..

Yup, 4 straight 30 goal seasons is not impressive

Also worth noting is goaltending today is the best it has ever been.

If Kessel gets an average of 35 goals over the next 10 years, he'll have 492 goals by the time he's 32...

You seem to have missed the part where the OP kind of insinuated that having 4 consecutive 30-goal seasons was HOF worthy.

That's what most people are laughing about...

Obviously Kessel doesn't merit a HoF consideration on the strength of his 4-straight 30 goal seasons, but I think what the OP meant was if he did so consistently over the course of his career.

Kessel is likely to keep up a 30-35 goal pace at least for the next 6-7 years(till hes 30) which would give him ~385G at age 30. With the style he plays (not very physical, no real history of injuries[one shoulder injury and cancer don't make him injury-prone]) he has a chance at some decent longevity meaning he would have like 8-9 years(past his prime) to score 115 goals to get to the 500-goal plateau. I think that 15 goals a season is totally reasonable to expect from Phil, even on the tail end of his career. And if he keeps up a 25 goal pace he could hit 600

With his current totals(including his terrible rookie and sophomore years)with 1200GP hes on pace for:

437G 403A 840P

(He's also PPG in the Playoffs, and if he does anything for the leafs in the playoffs he will be inducted into the HHOF under the name of Jesus Christ)

To put it in perspective, Iginla has had 10 straight seasons of 30+ goals and still isn't considered a lock for the HOF by some because he doesn't have a Cup, though he does have 2 Rocket Richards, an Art Ross, and a Lester B. Pearson. So no, I don't think 4 straight is gonna cut it.

Why are we discussing whether Kessel will be a HOFer? For all we know the guy we drafted in the 7th round last year will make HOF and Kessel will come nowhere near, who knows what will happen so lets not waste our time with it.

So you use logic and stats to convince the Senaturd troll? Did you not get the memo? Logic and valued statistics have not been discovered yet by the typical Sens fan. They still live in the stone age where Alfy is supposedly the classiest fella around.

you realize Selanee himself said in an interview that when he did that the game was completely different than it is currently and that goalies, dman and systems are vastly improved this day and age.

also it's funny that when it suits their argument, Selanee is a HOF and a world class talent and when it suits them he's a 1 dimensional floater.

I read that "their" as "my" and that "them" as "me".

He's more like a Bure lite.
