Is MaxPac the second best pick in the 2007 draft?

After Kane of course...

The best season by any other player taken in that draft was Perron with 50 pts in 81 games in 08-09.

Max has 35 pts in 46 games which puts him on pace for about 60. He has last year's number to back it up in case anyone thinks this season is a fluke.

My ranking would be:

1. Kane
2. Pacs
3. Perron
4. JVR

BTW- Eller and Subban are arguably in the top 10 as well.

Jamie Benn says hi!

My ranking would probably be:
1-Patrick Kane
2-Jamie Benn
3-Logan Couture
4-PK Subban
5-Max Pacioretty
6-James Van Riemsdyk
7-David Perron
8-Wayne Simmonds
9-Jakub Voracek
10-Ryan Mcdonagh
Then you have guys like Eller, Shattenkirk, B. Sutter, Alzner, Sam Gagner, Kyle Turris, etc.

I'd say Subban is rated ahead of Max?

I would switch Perron and JVR, also Im not sure that Subban isn't better than Perron either. But also I might just be biased.

I'd say Subban and Benn fill in the top 3 positions. Pacs is in the running with a few guys for top 5 and has a lock on top ten.

I love Max Pac, but I've gotta put..

PK Subban
Logan Couture
Jamie Benn

All as clearly better, and there are a bunch of other guys who are close.

Jamie Benn could be more valuable than Kane as early as next season. That guy is a beast.

Not even close. Benn, Couture, Alzner, Shattenkirk and McDo are ahead, but yea couldn't be happier about how it worked out.

Forgot about Couture... brain fart.

And Jamie Benn, what a beast... I honestly only looked the first 3 rounds.

And Max Pac is ahead of Subban.

I agree.

Max Pacioretty was a great pick in hindsight. So was McDonaugh.

No way should Simmonds and Voracek be higher than McDonagh IMO.

Benn is seriously underrated but MaxPac isn't that far behind:

1-Patrick Kane
2-Jamie Benn
3-Logan Couture
4-PK Subban
5-Max Pacioretty

I agree for Voracek but Simmonds is a beast. Simmonds is very powerful and is going to be a late bloom.

These three for sure, and I put them in the same order, fwiw. After that, I have a hard time really putting them in order. I think I put PK above Pacioretty, but dunno. Perron and JVR are right there for me, as is Shattenkirk. I might have also put Gunnarsson ahead of McDonagh before this season, but playing those minutes on a top team suggests McD should be well ahead at this point. Both are down in Eller/Gagne/Sutter/Simmonds land anyway, imo.

Well, 2007 is a particularly good example. Arguably 3 of the top 10 players picked without a top 10 pick... probably beyond comparison to over 90% of Montreal's drafting history.

2007 is actually a terrible example because the top of the draft was unusually weak. Most years your going to have more than just one excellent player come out of the top 5 and overall the 1st round was worse than most of the other post lockout drafts.

That's what makes it a great example though; the fact that picking the best players in the 2007 draft was not as simple as taking players in the consensus top 10 means that finding good talent in the first few rounds was more up to the strength of teams' scouting rather than where they finished in the standings.

Call me crazy, but I'd even take Benn ahead of Kane as of right now.

Its pretty crazy to think that maxpac has 35 points in 46 games considering the massive slump he went through after his suspension. Those are decent stats at the end of the day.

Pacioretty was definitely a steal, a la Subban! Oh and what a draft that was for us.

But I have a feeling Nathan Beaulieu will be an even bigger revelation.

He was misused during the WJC, could have been their best defenseman.

I also think Beaulieu will be great, but needs to word on is defense for 1 or 2 years in the AHL first.
