Sabres Survivor-Game Nine-Round Three @ MTL (01/31/12)
Sabres Survivor Rules
-Pick a Sabre who you believe will score a point in tonights game. If you believe the Sabres will be shutout, you may select a shutout as your pick. If you are correct, you live on. If that Sabre is held off the scoresheet, or if you pick shutout and are incorrect, you've been voted off the island. However, If all remaining players in the Survivor Game are eliminated giving us no winner based on points. A series of tiebreakers will be used to determine the winner of that Survivor Game. The tiebreaker order is as follows: Most Shots on Goal. Best +/- rating. Most PIM.Most TOI.
-You can pick a player a maximum of 2 times in one game, but never consecutively.
EX Roy,Roy NO. Roy,Vanek,Roy YES. Roy,Vanek,Roy,Vanek,Roy NO.
-Shootout goals will not be counted as points. The player you choose must record a point in regulation time or in the 5 minute overtime for it to be counted
-If the Sabres are shutout, and nobody has picked a shutout for that game, the game continues on.The picks made for the game in which the Sabres were shutout apply to the next Sabres game. However, If a shutout occurs and a shutout was picked by a contestant than all contestants with player picks are eliminated.
-You can pick the same Sabre as someone else did for any given game as long as you have not used that Sabre twice already.
-Make your picks carefully. If you choose a Sabre who doesn't play in that game, you are eliminated due to that Sabre scoring 0 points in that game.
-Once a Survivor game has started, nobody else can join in until that game has declared a winner.
- Picks must be made a before puck drop of that hockey game.
-If the thread for the next round of an ongoing Survivor game has not been posted at least 5 hours before puck drop on game day, all selections for that game are to be posted in the previous game's Survivor thread. (Ex. Make picks for Round Two in Round One thread if no Round Two thread is up)
-LAST MAN OR WOMAN STANDING WINS
Gerbe had an assist on the lone Sabres goal in regulation and the shootout winner as the Sabres won for the first time in 6 games. Buffalo's win was their first road win in 13 tries. Buffalo is now 3-7-1 in January.
Next up for the Sabres (20-24-5,45pts,14th in East) are the Montreal Canadiens (19-21-9,47pts,11th in East). This is the third of six meetings this season between these two teams. Buffalo leads the season series 2-0.
Vanek leads the team with 19 goals.
Pominville leads the team with 30 assists.
Pominville leads the team with 47 points.
Updated Standings as of the Game 9 Round 2. This is just a point tally, and does not have the game winners leading the standings. When we decide a playoff format (It sounds like 3 is gonna win) I'll work out the standings and tiebreakers for getting into the playoffs.
EDIT: Got a break and had my next class cancelled so I'm going to put the winners at the top of the list (In order of win by date) then fill out the remaining 24 players by point tally AND adding tiebreakers. Yay.
EDIT 2.0: Redacted do to accounting SNAFU. Please mind our dust during the renovation.

This however does not include tiebreakers. I've been going through and am trying to decide on something appropriate, so I put it to you guys, how do we decide who gets into the playoffs and who doesn't based on tiebreakers? Because right now there is a 5 way tie for the last 4 spots.

At the beginning I suggested something like "number of last day eliminations", then "number of 2nd last day eliminations", etc--basically you get in if you went further in games as opposed to consistently going 1-2 rounds before flopping. You could try that?
OR we could do a play-in game of some sort.
As for seeding, do the winners automatically get the top seeds, or is seeding by total points, or a combination (like the NBA--winners guaranteed home court but not necessarily top 3 seeds)?

That's what I'll probably run with then. Certainly one of the easier stats to count.
As far as seeding I think it's still up in the air. We could just as easily go by point totals, and then as you suggest give all the winners home pick advantage for their round, awarding home to the higher seeded winner in the case that two of them meet.
And it was proposed in the other thread that having home pick advantage means that you have a certain amount of time to lock in a pick for yourself that your opponent would then not be able to use for that day. And then since it's a 5 game round go 2-2-1 for home pick just like in hockey.

A play in game would definitely be a fair tie-breaker.
Heh. Something must have been counted wrong. I'll fix it tonight. Sorry.
Haha no worries, by my count, I should be at 22 as I was at 17, got 4 right in game 6, 0 in game 7, 0 in game 8, and 1 in Game 9. I never checked the last standings update before this one because I was already knocked out and you had me at 11 instead of 21, you probably just mistyped.

More than likely.
Either way, I'm going to go back and do an audit of everyone's to make sure I haven't ****ed up anything else too badly. Taking down today's standings at any rate.
