Look out Mike Mottau here we come!

If we do, I say it's Hal Gill.

Varlamnov wasn't an AHL goalie. The last time he was a primarily AHL goalie was 2008-2009. He's played more NHL playoff games than AHL games since then.

Cost too much I'm thinking. Mottau, Staios, Maybe Hannan or Oduya if their teams falter, think in terms of that kinda guy...depth veteran defenseman you could get for a low pick or a mid-level prospect.

Varlamov was the 3rd goalie in Wash at that point.

And my post was about the value of goalies not about AHL vs NHL goalies.

Doan, Whitney, Sykora, Knuble ect. all play for teams in the playoff hunt. I don't see why they would be considered trade targets.

Big Fish: Parise or Carter (Parise probably not getting traded though.)

Rentals: Prospal, Ruutu, Whitney, Hemsky (Whitney only goes if Phoenix is fairly far from a playoff spot come the deadline.)

Depth for bottom six: D. Moore, Moen, Gaustad, Pyatt

I say go after Ruutu, then any of those bottom sixers I listed, then go after Parise during the offseason.

There are probably half a dozen teams out there who want Ruutu. No way LA gives the best offer. I'd much rather go after a guy like Carter.

Thinking someone in the Ryan Smyth mold to crash the net. Malone/Ruutu type. Huselius if he's healthy for a skilled winger. Stay away from Hemsky!

Sometimes you never know. If you told me beforehand that Grant Marshall (0 goals in 66 playoff games) was going to be a solution to the Devils top 6 in 2003, I probably would have called you childish names.

Every playoff contender tries to supplement their team at the deadline, but inherently 8+ teams are going to look like failures no matter what they do.

In the other Zatkoff thread, we were discussing how he might qualify for Group VI unrestricted free agency this summer. So that might negate any trade value he has.

If those teams slide out of the hunt by deadline day, which isn't too far from possibility.

No no he'll play about 8-9 solid games have 4 goals and 6 assists and then break his hand blocking a shot by Jarret Stoll.

Grabners not playing much. He may be expendable with the amount of young forwards they have

I'm assuming he's already hurt, thus the reason why the Kings traded for him. Remember, this is an organization that has yet to figure out how to work an x-ray or MRI machine. The Kings doctors stand around it and bang on it like the monkeys from 2001.

As long as its someone who can somewhat score and is actually a natural winger, I don't care. Our bottom 6 is so bad it won't be hard to upgrade it.

And you were responding to a post about the value of Zatkoff. If you think Varlamnov's trade value has any direct link to Varlamnov, you're wrong. Zatkoff doesn't even come close to fetching malone unless Tampa is desperate to get rid of his salary and have literally no takers outside of us.

Agreed. The price for Ruutu is reportedly a 1st and a good prospect. I bet Columbus would take pretty much that for Carter. I'd rather get Carter, even with his long contract, for that than Ruutu.

Maybe in a year or two, but as long as his cap hit exceeds his salary he's a win-win for the low budget Islanders. He costs the Islanders $3 million in total dollars over the first two years of that contract. Maybe by 2014-2015 when his salary goes up to 44 million.

Love Grabner....not a lombardi player though. DL places little importance on speed, high end skill...more about experience and instincts. That's not Grabner's thing.

Not sold on Prospal. I don't think he fits our system.

I seriously think the Kings can make a run at Jeff Carter. Zach Parise? No chance. But Carter, to me, is a realistic possibility.
