What are some interesting players to target?

We're retooling and will dump off some dead-weight from now until July 1st. What are some free agents, players and draft picks to target? You get points for originality and reasonableness.

The only rule: Don't ***** about management, just have some fun.

http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=2 - Habs Cap
http://www.capgeek.com/free_agents.php - Upcoming Free Agents

1. Parise - I think after we let AKost go (hopefully for a return) and find out exactly how much free space we have Parise will get a giant offer from us. We have the grit and the size on the wings, Parise could be what Cammy should've been - an elite scorer.

2. Vermette - I've always liked him and if CBJ is looking to dump I'd pick him up. He'd be a great/good 3rd line/2nd line centre.

I would make very agressive offers to Suter and Parise. If nothing else it will raise the price somebody else has to pay.

Offer Parise 65 mil over 10 years, 10 mil per year the first 4 years then 6, 6, 4, 3, 3 and 3.

Similar offer to Suter except 60 mil over 10 years

GTFO: Gomez, Plekanec (Package him with AK or Moen or Gill or even the whole bloody bunch for a Star Center), AK, Gill, Moen, Gionta, Campoli and hey you know what? keep Kaberle, call me crazy but I think the guy fits here
Common' in: Paul Gaustad, Samuel Pahlsson (BAWSs Centers), Grossman, Burish, Suter, KENOPKA, Dj King, Oduya.
Potential Trade Partners (mix of rumors and sense): Moen+Plekanec+AK for Kesler and a throw in
Captain for next year: Erik Cole or Josh Gorges

FAs are what got us into trouble in the first place. Focus on picks and prospects. Enough with the quick fixes. Parise isn't going to solve anything.

I wouldn't wanna unload on Parise, for a "franchise" player that guy's never got his team beyond the first round of the playoffs and is now to choke add the fact that he is small and injury prone and will most likely command 7-8m to come here...No thanks

Suter I'd definitely go for and hope for a D with Suter, Subban, Gorges, Emelin and a healthy Markov, that is a sick sick top 5.

A shot in the dark, but I wonder if BSchenn might be available? For a high price, including a top D prospect?

I agree to a certain degree but key free agent signings are just as important in building a good team than trades and the draft. Its one way like another to get key players and fill holes in a lineup.

If we have the opportunity to sign a star player this summer we should take it. At least make substantial offers, if they don't want to sign here we'll drive their value up so our rivals overpay.

We shouldn't pass on guys like Weber, Suter or Parise. If we can score just one of these it would be amazing.

The only guy I would really break the bank for is Suter. He's a total stud and a legit 1st pairing D would be a game changer for our team and Ds usually stay effective late in their 30s so a long term front-loaded deal would be fine by me. IF Markov comes back healthy dump Kaberle and it leaves :

Suter - Gorges
Markov - Subban
Emelin - Diaz

Tinordi and/or Beaulieu can replace Markov in a yr or 2. Strong reliable top 6 for years to come. Start from there and worry about offense later.

Gaustad as a role player would be nice.

Not much else really enticing in the UFA list.

Quite Honestly, the LA Kings are the perfect trade partners for us. They don't need Goaltenders (Price) so that is a advantage for us since it's one less obstacle to try to negotiate away from.

Doubt they ever will consider doing this, but I'd bid for Dustin Brown. As i said, doubt they trade him, but if Gretz got traded, anything is possible. I personally believe Plek is expandable only for the right price though.

I'd rather target Mike Richards if you ask me

Either go for it and try to acquire a legitimate top end player, even if it mortgages the future.

Or

Work toward acquiring a young group of forwards with solid upside and move forward with that.

No more of that 'let's wait and see how we do until the deadline' stuff and trying to squeak in to the playoffs.

Edited my post up top before you quoted If we get Richards, which I would be extremely happy. But, we would have to deal either Plek or Eller (supposing they won't take Gomez) to avoid having a surplus of surplus centers (What?).... As i said, Plek++For Richards, I'll sign asap. Me semble que Richards-Bourque would look like a solid duo.

Build a foundation through the draft, augment with UFAs. That's how it has to be done.

Move UFA's with the exception of AK for picks and prospects only. Draft Grigorenko/Galchenyuk.

Bury Gomer in order to be able to swing for the fences with Suter if he's available on free agency day(I think he might be). If Markov comes back, our defense will be unreal with:

Suter - Subban
Markov - Gorges
Emelin - Weber/Diaz

Would be ridiculous.

The Bourque trade might be seen as positioning to attack the FA market. I will be shocked if Suter or Parise reach the open market, but Semin might be a possibility, expensive though it may be. Ales Hemsky is also intriguing. Otherwise, pickings are pretty slim.

How do you start a "realistic" scenario with Kesler? Get real.

Evander Kane
Stastny
Schenn, Kulemin - Tor
Gormley

1 forward and 1 dman is what I'd like to get and not all of them.

Ellis has been better than Gormley this year, and significantly better in Shawinigan.

I wouldn't pay face value for Gormley, which is most likely his price.
