Weather over Habs loyalty?

That's what the offseason is for.....getting away.

I'd play for any team in the NHL to be honest. Even the Bruins.

Yes. Every Habs fan dreamed about playing for Montreal when they were growing up and all of a sudden you make the NHL the dream goes away? I don't understand that nor the people saying weather would play a factor. If you are already living in Montreal and hate the weather why don't you move now? It's not like your in Montreal or the city your playing for all year anyways your traveling for half the schedule and you can live any where you want to in the summer. Wouldn't matter for me how good I was it would be a dream come true to just wear the jersey for one game. I guess the people who wouldn't are the types of people that let money change them.

I would play for the Bruins, but I wouldn't play for any team. Islanders would be out of the question for me. Probably Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg as well. I wouldn't want to live in those provinces.

you know, as much as I hate the leafs, I somewhat agree with you...

MOntreal is the obvious first choice, bar none...

but if i had to play somewhere else, I'd want to play in a hockey-mad market with a rich tradition.

Detroit comes to mind, and would probably take precedence over the laffs given their modern success/quality leadership, but I'm not a fan of Detroit as a city.

otherwise, maybe Chicago or New York, or god-forbid, Boston... Chi & NY are a bit fairweather at times, but both those cities are/would be fantastic places to live with tons of disposable income

definitely would prefer an original 6 team from a tradition pov.

then Vancouver, then any of the sun belt/southern teams (TB, Fla, Phx, Dallas, Carolina)

Cgy, Edm, Ott would all fall way down on the list despite being canadian cities... as much as Canada is hockey mad, at times I get the feeling the actual passion for the teams in these markets is a bit more "for show/bandwagon" than it is deeply rooted.
heck, in the late 90's early 2000's, you couldn't give away flames tickets... i was amazed at how little interest there was for the team.

Please if a hockey players only stress is losing 200K out of a 5M$ paycheck..boo ****ing hoo.

If their stress is talking to the media for 20 min a day...boo hoo.

If their only stress is signing autographs too often then boo hoo.

You want real stress? How about all of us working 9-10 hours a day in a stressed environment with only 2 weeks off a year.

If I was a hockey player, playing in Montreal would be awesome because it is my city and one of the best in the world.

You are the one who said you would not want to play in Montreal.

You are the one who is always siding with Gauthier.

Stating those two facts is trollish?

Trollish would be accusing you of not wanting to play in Montreal before you posted your answer.

I would try to make it with the team that drafted me for as long as I could. If that team gave up on me, I would go to Montréal, if they offered me a contract (unless the Nordiques make me an offer). I'm not the type of guy who likes to change environments. I've been working at the same place for 9 years, because I don't want to have to start from square one elsewhere, with new people, new ways to do things, etc. As a hockey player, I'd probably be the same, and would seek as much consistency as I could. But if forced to change, I would probably seek some comfort by going to a city like Montréal, closer to home. Québec City would be even closer to home, so an even more interesting relocation option. But that's just me, and I'm a sociopath. So hardly your average NHL free agent.

When the idea of playing in the NHL for your childhood favourite team is a dream and faraway it seems great. When you make the NHL and are living in the reality of the situation, like with other things in life, priorities change. There's family and other things that start to be a factor. Dream vs Reality.

I would! Being an Anglo Quebec'er who speaks French is perfect! You slide right under the weather. They leave you alone for fitting in but could care less because your never really one of them.
