Alfie doesn't want to be a GM + A funny Volchenkov story

Quote:
8. Alfredsson, by the way, said he does not intend to be a GM when his career is over. Thought about it, but decided that route isn't for him.
From Elliot's 30 thoughts.

Volchenkov's story.

Quote:
7. They did tell an even better story, though. Years ago, Ottawa was in Vancouver and a few of the players decided to go on a bike ride. They were being pretty competitive and didn't realize they'd lost someone -- Anton Volchenkov. This was early in his career, when Volchenkov spoke almost zero English and Petr Schastlivy was the only guy he could talk to. Volchenkov found a park bench on the route they took and waited until the others doubled back to find him. It took about two hours.

So Alfie will either be President, Scout, or Coach.

Scouting would be tough for Alfie, he has to travel all over the place and that wouldn't gel with him raising his family.

Don't blame Alfie.

Why would you want to face the criticisms of a General Manager when your reputation is so perfect in the community.

I don't see him coaching either but he also said this past weekend he doesn't want to half-ass anything, but he also wants time for his family.

Volchy was one of my all time favourite players
Sad to see NJ won't let him play his game

How plausible do you think it would be to have him back? He is only a year older then Spezza so it's not like he would be "too old for a rebuilding team"

Alfie will be President in my opinion.

Also, I would love Volch back. My first username was Volch24

I don't think he would come back though, and if he does, it will be when Gonchar is gone..

Volchenkov was my favorite Senator. All my Jersey's have Volchenkov on them because I never ever imagined he would ever be let go or traded. That guy was the best pure D man we ever had next to Chara. I would be so happy if we could ever get him back.

Alfie will likely be in a limited (less travel) player development role or special assistant to the gm type role for the first 2-3 years until he finds out what route he truly wants to go in.

Cant just fire cyrill when he's doing a good job. Also alfredsson has no experience. Vice president is probably more realistic

Alfie doesn't need any job or title. He is omnipresent.

No matter what he does there will be a significant grooming process, I can only imagine.

Leeder's been around since Day 1. He's gonna be around for a while...great guy to work under. I'm not sure that's Alfie's path but I imagine that's closer to what he would do.

Don't think it's coaching and it apparently isn't GMing. I think he wants something where getting fired isn't a likelihood anytime soon.

I think it's important he remains as a visible face. Someone that has a say in the direction of the franchise as far as business and on-ice product goes. Someone that's around and in contact with the players on a regular basis, albeit not necessarily day-to-day.

If the bankrupt Devils want to re-sign Parise, they're going to have to make moves like...

Trade Volchy to the Sens after the season.

If we're going to make a darkhorse playoff run next season to celebrate Alfie, we really need a physical force on D, to make a late game shutdown pair with Cowen.

I would be insanely happy if this happened somehow.

After he retires, Alfie will be sitting in a box eating nachos, willing the team to victory by his presence.

I could see Alfie being kind of like a coaches adviser like a special assistant or something that helps out with practices and stuff until his kids are grown up enough that he can start scouting or higher up position opens up

I could see Alfredsson coaching this team and during intermissions he'd just stand in the middle of the room not voicing a single word and the team would gain momentum off his presence.

You guys giving me false hope about getting Volchenkov back. Would he be worth it for 4 more years including the next if we got him back at 4.25mil per though? With Gonchar gone, he'd be the highest paid dman.
