Just wondering what would possibly take for Columbus to trade Vermette to SJ. Sharks have around 4 mill in cap space and Vermette's cap hit is 3.7 I think.
What is Columbus in need of? Defense? Goaltending?

Probably could be had cheap but doesn't seem like he fills any need. We need top 6 fwds who can puck hunter with speed and aggressively forecheck. Not another center.

Vermette is definitely this, and can play wing, but is not a clear cut top 6 guy.
2 out of 3 ain't bad - ask Meatloaf
I agree though that while Vermette is available, the cap hit is too high for what he brings, unless the Sharks have someone to dump.
We don't really have anyone to dump (and the Niemi concept above is absurd, especially after his 2 game shutout streak) except Niittymaki and Mitchell, and both are UFA's after this season so no real pressing need to dump them.
If DW made that trade, and offered more than Niitty, Mitchell and a 4th I'd personally throw something at him from the stands during the next game.
Would love Vermette if only we could magically make Zues disappear (who I like, but much like Heatley, is a poor fit on a team that desperately needs speed).
that was no mistake, i meant what i said. 4 million for a mid-tier goalie? please. dump him now and don't wait on it like we did for a decade with nabakov.

rofl.
He's paid appropriately, and at WORST a top-15 goalie in the league. Do you want Greiss as our #1? You don't pin a season on an unproven guy, as much as I like Greiss.
to be honest, something similar to the mike fisher deal which was a 1st rounder and a conditional 2nd rounder for next season (3rd rounder if they dont advance past 1st round)

Thats not going to happen. He's having a poor season and has a terrible contract. You would be lucky to get a 2nd for him period (and I would be pissed if it was my team giving up the 2nd).

Think it through man.
Just like Toskala and Nitty, Greiss hasn't even been given a fair test to you or anyone in the Sharks organization to be making these judgment calls. The Sharks are doing the same crap they did with Nabakov where they make him play like 60+ games a season. It didn't work with that 5 million dollar goalie and it won't work with this one. You gotta wonder why the Sharks continue to suck. Until you change these traditional methods of running a hockey team, you change nothing. We're about to be going on a decade now without a Cup while still being a contender. Wise up.

And that's entirely the goaltenders fault, yes, clearly.
Again, you would trust the teams entire season to Greiss? Niemi is on a 2 game shutout streak for crying out loud. He has GREAT numbers. He already won a cup... To say he can't win a cup is not only silly, it's patently false.

Yes that may be too much, but still, hes not doing that much worse than fisher was in his last season in ottawa, and his contract is less as well

the only goaltenders at fault are the starters that are getting excessive games. nabby was and now it's nemo. wow, a shutout against columbus, the worst team in the league. this is one of several things i dislike about the sharks organization. they inflate the stats and don't look at things realistically or in a practical sense. did i say i would trust the entire season with Greiss? but you're already writing him off along with everyone else. everyone knows nemo played in front of a stacked team. turco could've won a cup that year. turco.
