Hey, even if he's just pulling this completely out of his arse (which I'm sure he's not) that's still a pretty convincing job. There are plenty of people who sit around their computers and try to come up with proposals and speculation to better this and that team. Dreger just gets paid to do it.

Even if JVR doesn't get traded to the Leafs, that doesn't mean that the Leafs weren't "in on him" exactly as he reported.
Furthermore, one can reasonably deduce that Burke would be "in on" JvR.

#1. Burke's a GM who likes to make big trades, and his team is in 8th place.

#2. JvR is a big american winger -- Burke likes americans.

#3. Burke doesn't seem interested in making a move for a pure rental, because his team isn't at that point yet.

#4. Philadelphia is probably a bit disappointed in JvR's development so far, and have a need for a blueliner -- something Toronto has a lot of.

Some dude (JimmyStizzle or something) tweeted that Dreger said the Leafs were going after JVR and Dreger tweeted him back all pissy and stuff saying he didn't say that and he said Burke would revisit interest in JVR..........as if there is any difference.

Check it out for a good laugh guys.

Ok, the dude's username is JimmyStizzle. He has since tweeted back to Dreger telling him it was semantics. Nothing back from Dreger yet.

Dreger is coming off as a real smarmy jerk though.

Dreger is quickly becoming one of the most annoying personalities in hockey. So basically the Leafs arent in on him.

I used to like him. He hasn't called anything and IDK if it's Burkie trolling him (which I doubt) or he has nothing. IMO... he has nothing. So... I've lost a lot of respect for him.

You guys do realize that it is highly likely that trades fall through.

Think of the amount of times that people propose trades on HF and how rare it is for those trades to be agreed upon by both fanbases? Many GMs probably offer each other trades every day, that's what Dreger is reporting.

Besides, look at Dreger's job, if you know he's going to broadcast the information you gave him, why would you continue to fill him in? He probably needs to find new sources all the time.

Yeah, so disappointed they gave him a six year deal worth $25,5million. Now imagine if they were satisfied

When JvR returns that added investment with basically the same production as before, there's definitely some disappointment involved.

Exactly... for the reasons I listed earlier, there's a very good chance that Burke & Holgren have discussed JvR at length.

Will a deal get done? Who knows? Both teams face similar problems in trying to make a deal that involves JvR.

From Philly's perspective, Dion Phanuef isn't going to be on the table, so you have to question whether they can get a Leaf-calibre defenceman without giving up JvR.

From Toronto's perspective, JvR is going to cost a significant defenceman, and you have to question whether or not it's worth making that move when you've got Kessel, Lupul, MacArthur, Kulemin, Armstrong, Lomdardi and Kadri on the wings.

And that he wouldn't want to deal Kadri or Schenn.

Now why would Burke be talking about his home... VERY suspicious. I should probably go create a thread on this.

Rather than talk about Dreger's credibility, TSN's desperate attempts to drum up interest for their trade deadline show or Burke's favorite kind of pudding, I'll ask the following:

What do people think of a Schenn for JVR trade, both in terms of hypothetical HFBoards trade "value" and filling a need for both teams? Would one side have to add?

well Philly is known for signing huge contracts then trading them and Burke loves American players such as Kessel and such, but I think hes doing well with Lupul.

The deal works well on a "need / strength" basis. I know my feeling that a Leafs 2nd should be added is a product of my bias. Let's settle it at JvR for Schenn + 1 Kadri intangible.
