I'm very afraid of how hard it will be to get tickets to this. STH should definitely get first dibs, but I doubt the rest of us will have much luck.
Tix to the game this year in Ottawa were going for 400-600 a piece on ebay as late as Saturday night, about the same price for the "skills competition" as well.
And it was held in Ottawa. We love our Bluejackets, but hockey ain't moving the meter here like football does.
I have a feeling that if you decide not to renew STH's, you could probably still pull in tix to the game if you really wanted to go.... Is it worth paying for a bunch games to make sure you can get them?
I would guess that any tickets not taken by the NHL and STH will go via lottery to people who filled out a request and no tickets will ever go on sell to the public outside of scalpers.
I really don't think it's a coincidence that this was 'leaked' the day before the protest.
I don't know, I tend to lean towards "coincidence" on this one. If Bettman seriously was looking to derail a protest in Columbus on Saturday, I think he'd have made the official announcment on Friday. I certainly don't believe the protest had anything to do with the decision to select Columbus at the 2013 host, which would have been made weeks ago, and more likely was influenced by the ownership/arena deal last summer and the construction of the new Hilton in the Short North.
In any case, its a nice perk for STH's, assuming they'll get a fair shot tickets. Those guys are paying for this team, and have every right to be upset with the results. I doubt if I'll take the kids down for this, as I'm guessing that would run me upwards of 2k to grab 4 decent seats. I could grab a pair of lower bowl seats for 20 games for the price tag.
Blown realignment that the Jackets supported, terrible on ice product with seemingly no end or feasible plan in sight etc... Connecting the dots, it wasn't hard to see why this was an easy thing for Bettman (who's been the proponent of the the last couple of rounds of expansion) to step into.
I understand the league is touting the 07 draft as a the main reason this was given, but with the public statement of support Bettman gave Priest and Howson after he complimented the fanbase for the passion of the rally (he said something like (paraphrasing) "No one is more upset by the situation on the ice more than Mike and Scott"), it certainly looks like the league is trying to insert itself into the middle of the situation....
We'll see... Personally, if the team is playing like garbage again next season with no clear cut candidates for the ASG, I won't be stuffing the ballot box for any CBJ players, regardless of where the game is....
Since we're on the subject, would I assume that whatever the logo is, we use that in patch form on our uniforms, like most teams do?
You bring up an excellent point.
Yes, this is the case. It's been the case since Pittsburgh in 1989-90; every year, that season's host wears the patch for the first half of the season.
But more important is that, although the All-Star logo is normally done in team colors, there are few things more hideous than a patch with mismatched colors compared to the jersey. If you remember Edmonton's 25th anniversary patch, it was the same color as their alternates, which was not the same color as either the home or road.
Basically, the potential is there for something similar to happen unless there's a way to bridge both the alternate and the primary color schemes.

Even if the colors match properly, the logo design itself can look odd. I never liked Pittsburgh's 250th city anniversary logo and how it fit on the Pens' uniforms.
i dont watch the nhl network, so what do you mean?
When they would go to break (they have a panel every night recapping all the games) they put up a thing that looked like yours but it had NHL on it, to be honest I never paid much attention but after seeing yours it caught my eye as being similar.. I'll watch tonight.

I think we're all missing the most important aspect of having the ASG.....
A new banner for the rafters!
"2013 All Star Game Host"
As for tickets:
If they hold a lottery that would be excellent. Even though local CBJ fans probably won't buy enough to cover the leftovers, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago are all cities that will definitely have fans coming here.
