Pronger >> Markov

No chance that Philly would do this without steep incentive from Montreal, even with Pronger's current health status.

Right now no one knows if either will ever play again. And unless I am mistaken, prongers contract is a 35+ so it stays on the books no matter what..

Won't happen. Pronger's probably going to retire and Markov is a huge injury risk, so no deal.

yes please.

I doubt Pronger ever plays again and Markov isn't a 35+ contract.

That said, the organization would never do that to Pronger.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOO

Pronger's contract, 5 more years at 4.9, the last 2 years, he makes 525K, no way he is playing those years. Say he comes back and is health next year, you get 3 amazing years of Pronger, than he retires and you are STUCK with a cap hit of 4.9M for 2 years left on that contract.

I'd like to see Philly try to pull that off again. Especially with the remaining years. Pronger plays or retires, no way a guy that competitive sits in limbo.

As for the OP, no thanks. Pronger is obviously better, but that contract is pretty scary and Markov is skating again.

For $20 million, I think he might hang around for a few years.

The only point I can see him actually walking away is the final two years, which pay $525k. Until then, there's no way he retires.

First, maybe he can stay on the LTIR if Pronger never comes back to play, but since he isn't retired, every season a Doctor gets the final say on if he is medical cleared to play, its not something you can fake for 5 yeas.

But lets say he is fine and ready to go next season, he is going to play for 3 years, and retire the last two. You won't be able to fake an injury.

The other concern is the loophole may be closed in the new CBA. They may cap the number of consecutive years a player can be on LTIR.

1. I doubt that very much, but even if so...

2. I doubt that any limit would be imposed without adjusting the 35+ contract rule for just this scenario--a player who signs a long-term deal in good faith but suffers a career-ending injury (if that is what this is).

3. If there is a limit, it almost certainly would be grandfathered in.

How is he "in limbo"? If he's healthy enough to play, he plays and everyone's happy. If he can't play (highly likely) he sits on his butt and collects $20M that doesn't count against the Flyers cap. He's not being forced into anything.

Who's talking about faking anything? His wife was on TV in tears talking about how brutal it's been for them watching him go through this concussion. His career is likely over, just like Primeau and LaPerriere. It looks like the very definition of a long-term injury and the LTIR.

Will be interesting to see how the Flyers handle the Pronger situation. If he retires they are F'd due to his 35+ contract. If he is Rathje'd it will be interesting to see if the NHLPA or NHL intervenes to have league doctors check him out to see if he is indeed unfit to play.

As for this trade proposal - it makes no sense at all. You can't trade a player that is injured or on LTIR.

Why on earth would Pronger retire?
