Hodgson's shot is quite lethal. Ask Price, Howard, Thomas, etc but I doubt Timmy would want to pump his tires unless Hodgson has a republican bumper sticker.

Might see Cody hit the 40 goal plateau one of these years.

Vancouver's Hodgson named Rookie of the Month

Quote:
"It's just a blessing to be able to play hockey for your life, your career, your profession," Hodgson said. "It's pretty cool to wake up every day and go to the rink. Not everybody gets a chance to do this, and that's a pretty cool outlook."
The kid is alright.

He has a good shot, but he passes way too much for that. I think we'll see him as a consistant 30 goal guy though. D Sedin passes a lot, and he hit 40 goals, so it's possible. But I don't think Cody has or ever will have the skill level of either Sedin.

Congrats to Coho on a great month, hopefully he's able to keep up the pace. Nice to see him having a year like this after the challenges and setbacks of the last two years.

Anyone remember that game against the Avalanche, where the Avs fans joked it was "Team Matt Duchene vs. The NHL-Ready Cody Hodgsons"?

It amazes me that everyone was jumping on the "Hodgson is a bust" bandwagon and ignored the fact that he missed an entire year of hockey.

I would argue his shot (all shots: slapper, wrister, snap shot) is better than Henrik's is now, and his slapper is way better than Daniel's.

Im pretty sure he and Sami Salo are the only two canucks who can beat an unscreened goalie from 45 feet with a slapper.

You're not going to get much of an argument. The Sedins shot has never really been the best part of their game. It's good (particularly Daniel) but it's just not the strongest part of their game. Both Cody's wrist and slap shot are lethal.

Edler could beat a goalie too. (it'd just be five feet wide)

Daniel and Henrik's style of hockey reminds me of a quote on Wayne Gretzky - "he doesn't play hockey, he plays 40 mph chess". The Twins are so damn good at playing the angles.

That said, Daniel has a sick wrister.

But I do think Hodgson has, without a doubt, the best slapshot of any forward on the team now, and in years.

We haven't had a prospect on forward like this since the Sedins.

Cody Hodgson is having a great season so far, but that's what i expect from 2008 when we first draft him, so that's about 3-4 years too late.

So what, we're throwing this season out the window because he didn't do this as an 18 year old? What do you mean by 'too late'?

Apparently he should have been playing at this level with serious back issues

This is the proper way to break kids into the NHL. Unless you're a super freak like Crosby/Toews, throwing them in the show at 19/20 isn't the brightest idea.

Object lessons - Gilbert Brule and Kyle Turris.

Yup. Look no further than Brule who suffered two serious injuries as an 18 year old in Columbus and then struggled as a 19 year old (a 19 year old struggling in Columbus? no way). Hopefully he is turning it around in Phoenix, though.

Exactly. Look at players like Josh Bailey and Sam Gagner. They have developed very little since being rookies as 18 year olds because they were rushed to the NHL.

Those are mighty big shoes to fill.

EDIT: Probably a fitting note to end part one of the All Purpose Hodgson saga.
