funny, last year I remember Krecj playing tough against several of our guys, until Pouliot rung his bell.

what happenend next? Lucic stalked Pouliot, Campbell pulverized Pyatt, and Chara tried to kill MaxPac..

Marchand does far worse than what Subban did on a regular basis, and always has Chara/Lucic/Thornton to go run behind...

Subban isn't a fighter, and shouldn't have to scrap with anyone just b/c he levels a hit, or b/c he stands up to a thug like Lucic.

a well stocked roster would have ample guys to step in and make sure the team's best Dman didn't have to "back it up".

only on a team absolutely devoid of real tough guys would a guy like Subban have to fight above his weight class.

The trade yesterday was a good opportunity to acquire PLLL and we didn't (what a surprise)

We could have had him on waivers one of the 12 times he was waived. The market on one dimensional fighters that scare nobody is pretty thin.

PL3 is a unidimensional fighter. We don't need of that. He liable on the ice.

This is an interesting thread though.

I'd like for Montreal to acquire David Jones -27 years old, RW 6'2 210 - he's having an off year with only 9 goals but scored 27 goals last year. He's only making 2.5 million this year and wouldn't cost much more over a three year contract

I would play him with Bourque and Plekanec....
What would it cost Montreal to acquire him? He would solidify Montreal's top 9.

Oh, there is a long list of players that the Habs must aim for in a trade or on the UFA market this summer... in an approximative order (if they are not locked):

- Kyle Clifford
- Shawn Thornton
- Matt Carkner
- Ryan Reaves
- Arron Asham
- Jim Vandermeer
- Brandon Prust
- Travis Moen
- Brad Winchester
- Gregory Campbell
- Zenon Konopka
- Tim Gleason
- Paul Gaustad
- Dan Carcillo
- Jordin Tootoo
- George Parros
- Krys Barch
- Jake Dowell

Them we can let sign away...

- Cam Janssen
- Darcy Hordichuk
- Raitis Ivanans
- Pierre-Luc Létourneau-Leblond
- Etc...

What you guys think of Cody Mcleod the guy hits, fights and can be reliable on the ice kind of like a Moen(less effective has a defensive player Moen is great at it). Would be nice to have to have a true 4th lune (plus with a guy like White) He doesn't seem to be like anymore in Colorado while some time back he was playing 12 min a game and was used some time on the PK.

Cody McLeod brings no intimidation factor on the ice (not more than Moen), is less effective than Moen defensivly, and less effective than Moen offensively.

Travis Moen is an upgrade to Cody McLeod in hockey sense and they are pretty much equal in terms of fighting.

A typical tough 4th line is:

A heavyweight fighter (nothing to do with the size even if they call that "heavyweight"): Shawn Thornton, Mike Rupp, Jared Boll, George Parros, Kyle Clifford is on his way to be a HW also.

And two middleweights: Travis Moen, Zenon Konopka, Brandon Prust, Jake Dowell, Tim Jackman, Arron Asham, Paul Gaustad, etc.

You can also try to get two heavyweights that can play and fight at the same time but it's harder.

So, for example:
Shawn Thornton (HW) - Ryan White (LW) - Kyle Clifford (MW/on his way to be a HW)
Would be the ultimate 4th line.

But:

Shawn Thornton (HW) - Ryan White (MW) - Brandon Prust (MW)
Would work very well also.

And on the defense, you need at least two or three guys that can scrap. One HW, one or two MWs. For example, that would be the best:

Subban - Gorges
Markov - Gleason (MW)
McQuaid (MW) - Carkner (HW)

But it'd be possible to have something like that and it'd be okay...

Subban - Gorges
Markov - Gleason (MW)
Diaz - Carkner (HW)

Imo if we can keep Moen ( or replace him with a similar player ) and add another tuff player ( clifford, Reaves, ect) , we will be fine in the "toughess departement".

Cole, Subban, Pacciorrety, Moen , White , Emelin, Bourque , Subban....

Stop the pills. Do it for you. you repeated twice the same guy.

And this guy [Subban] is the same one who TURTLED to ANDREW FERENCE

I like Erik Cole, he does play well in the corners with his big body, but he adds no toughness with his fists.

Paccioretty isn't even tough, Bourque is when he's on his mood, and Emelin lays great hits but pisses in his jock-strap when there is a potential of a fight going on.

Welcome to the board. Get ready to be ridiculed by a vocal majority for wanting to have players on the Canadiens roster who will fight. Gauthier does not believe in tough guys who will fight. Non-fighting Habs fans = huge Gauthier fans.

Gleason is gone, he just signed a contract extension.

Prust, Konopka and White would be a formidable 4th line. Konopka is winning 58.7% of his faceoffs and Prust has 11 points (compared to Darche and his 6 points) and we know what White can do.

And then add Carkner on D (+1) and we will have a tough team that would allow our top 6 forwards to focus on what they are supposed to do.........score goals.

I see what you mean. I have problems on the Travis Moen to be traded thread with some typical sissy ass Habs fans...

You seem to understand hockey quite clearly.

It's as simple as this. They say I prefer goons instead of skills players. WTF. We can easily replace Darche, Nokelainen or Blunden with Thorntons, Bolls or Rupps.

The list is as long as last year ad 2 years ago. And who did we sign ? Nobody. It will be the same thing this summer. Just pathetic

And St-Louis resigned Reaves for 2 more years. My choices would be Konopka to center the 4th line, with Prust at LW, and Vandermeer at defence

I hope Darche's gone next season and gets replaced by a tougher player (just for reference, Brad Winchester has as many goals as Darche has points this season).

Canadiens are now 1 fight away from the last place in the NHL ! And not so many pts to be dead last in the standings. What an entertaining year
