Good deal for both the Pens and Vitale. Great cap hit for what he brings to the table.

Assuming it's a one-way deal? Great news if it is, I love seeing guys from Northeastern making it in the pros.

I guess the Pens considered him a Vitale part of their organization.

Even though the joke is obvious and probably old, you just made my day. Thank you for that.

On a serious note, where does Vitale fit in on a hypothetical healthy penguins squad?

Joe Vitale leads the Pens with a 55.9-percent success rate on faceoffs and places fourth among forwards with 24 blocked shots.
He's a good player at a cheap cap hit, what more could you want?

4th line center. He's just a hard working, never quit, balls to the wall type player.

So we got our newer Talbot back for two more years and saved 1.3 million in the process?

Sweet.

I hope you know that Talbot is on pace for 35 points and 19 goals so far??

Btw. I never wanted to hand out Talbot the deal he got, and I still wouldn't, but he has outplayed Cooke bigtime this season..

He's always played on the 4t line.

kunitz - corsby - dupuis
neal - malkin - kennedy/sullivan
cooke - staal - kennedy/sullivan
asham - adams - park
vitali, godard, tangradi, jeffrey, etc.

Park is obviously the oldest. Jeffery likely deserves a roster spot too..

but this is the best Talbot has played for quite some time, change of scenery has been great for him and I don't think he'd have played anywhere near this well on the Pens.

Not to derail this but Talbot has looked really good in orange and black. I was skeptical about the contract when it was signed. I do like what Talbot has done for our team. As of late he's been a mainstay on a line with Voracek, lately with Voracek and Couts as a somewhat "shutdown" line.

Nice signing for Vitale though, he is a hard worker and doesn't give up when on the ice.

No doubt about that. Vitale has been what Talbot was early on in his career, and that's the Talbot we loved. Post-Cup Talbot was a mediocrity who was desperately in need of health and, apparently, a change of scenery.

Had Talbot stayed on with the Penguins for one more year I don't see his production being anywhere near what it is with Philadelphia. I still think that contract will bite Philadelphia in the ass before it's at the midway point...but he's an absolute steal for them this year, somehow. On the flip side, as a Penguins fan, I'm taking this version of Vitale and his near-minimum contract over Talbot and his $1.050 million contract that we had the previous two years, to say nothing of Talbot's monster deal right now.

Linemates have definitely helped Talbot to, all though he did have some periods playing with Geno he also had a lot of time playing with Craig Adams and Eric Godard.

Talbot started off on a hot streak.... don't pro-rate that as some sort of true value. Talbot is having a career year and nothing more.

Besides, Cooke was resigned before last season, no? How can you compare that to this past offseason?

Furthermore, we all know why Cooke isn't doing well.....
