Smyth will have $1.35M left on trade deadline day.
so for the record lets ay Wolski and EC are off the books and Smyth is added at the trading deadline. Do the Rangers not have enough space to pull this off?
He's another player that would take a slapshot in the face to score a goal. I think he would step in and wouldn't miss a beat on how we play. The problem is he is slow, but him on the powerplay makes up for his speed, I'd think.
Prospal was slow when he was here too. He knows how to score goals and like you said, he would do anything to do so. Heart and soul player.

Forget about Wolski and Zuccs as tradebale assets to a rebuilding team. They are both UFAs who have a combined zero goals this season..
Actually, they will both be RFAs. And they both have some value in that they are talented players who could fit better on another team. Wolski would have to go the other way in any deal for Smyth to make the cap hits work.
If Smyth will only waive to play with the Rangers, they aren't getting a king's ransom for him. They'll get Wolski and a pick, probably a 3rd rounder. Or maybe Zucc instead of a pick.
Would Smyth for Wolski and your 1st this year be too much?
Yes
Wouldn't give up a 1st for Smyth
e: I just really hate throwing away 1st round picks, even if they'll be later first round picks, for rental players unless they're truly great players. While Smyth would probably help, he's not a very good overall hockey player at this point `

The only players I can the Rangers giving up this year's #1 for are the Anaheim forwards or the Nashville D-men. So, essentially, it's unlikely the #1 gets moved.
If teemu selanne were to come out and say the same thing, I think you'd take him over Smyth. I say trade for Smyth now so you have time until the deadline to see if it's working out or if maybe you still need to add a little more to the team.

In one sense, yes. In another sense, Smyth is actually a LW.
