What's the point of this? We wasted a pick to get the cap hit off a guy we could have buried in the minors, which is exactly what we're going to do with Wellman.

Wellman doesn't require waivers, EC did.

Wellman will help Hartford. It's not a terrible thing to bring a winning environment to our farm club. They could really use the help. Also, although he's considered a inconsistent player, I can't look at his 7 points in 14 games in the NHL and pretend like they don't exist. He has some skill and could turn into a 4th line player down the road. Although PA. Parenteau seems to be the favorite comparison so maybe we should save everyone the trouble and just trade him to the Islanders.

Wellman is also a RFA who I imagine they resign just like they did with Mitchell.........its a freaking 7th rounder people........Wellman is likely better than that pick would be

If the Rangers were hanging around the 6-10 slot in the Conference, then I could see them wanting to keep WW and EC around simply because of shootout points.

But the Rangers have been healthy and surging...when they have given either WW or EC the chance to play this season, they really didnt show much.

Cap move and a good one. Simple as that.

People are crying over a 7th rounder?

This team is in Cup mode. The way I look at it is simple -- I came home early from work today and found out the Rangers just cleared almost $400,000 in cap space without making any lineup changes.

Yahtzee!!!!

people didnt hate him. they just hated wasting a roster spot on a guy who could do very little now and had no future...essentially a waste of space. no one hates a phone booth.

Wow, Sather pulled his magic again. Not a blockbuster deal at all, but man, I thought EC would fetch just a 7th. The fact that we got a 7th and a great face-off man and a guy with top six talent for EC is remarkable.

Ummmmm... This was a good move in terms of player management, as someone said above, but nothing more. Frees up some cap space in the event the Rangers want a rental.

Minnesota gets the conditional 7th rounder, not us.

Oh, wow. Didn't even notice that, I thought we got the 7th rounder. Well in that case, still a good trade. Sure, we got Hank with a 7th rounder, but what are the odds that happens again. We got rid of EC, that's all that counts.

And Wellman does have talent. He's a step up from John Mitchell. He's also very good at face-offs. Good guy to have in the system.

There are no shootouts in the playoffs. Goodbye and good luck, EC.

Not a good player but guys here went too out of their way to attack him personally.

Peace out, EC.

The Rangers didn't get the 7th. They gave it up.

He would certainly be a better fit than Anisimov right now.

Personally, I wish the guy well and hope he gets everything together in Minnesota. Seemed nice enough, just not a Torts player. He clearly has some skills.

Hope he lights it up PPG style with the Wild. He showed heart and took a ton of criticism (rightfully deserved), but he seems like a nice guy.

Good riddance however.

Wellman is younger, has a lower cap hit, is on a 2-way deal and has more points than Christensen in 6 less games. It's a steal.
