I actually think we can criticizes Gomez the man. What kind of person accepts a salary like that and then doesn't even try to live up to it. Sure he seems upsets about his production in interviews, but enough to actually put in an effort on a constant basis? No. Once in a blue moon, he's all over the ice (not scoring but trying ). That's just proof to me that he can but won't. We wouldn't be having this conversation if he did put in a constant effort.
So yes, I believe we can criticize the man. He's probably a hell of a guy to go have a beer with but that doesn't change the fact that he is a lazy man, with no real sense of pride, that accepts someone else's money while giving nothing in return.
Like another poster said. If he is depressed, get help. Like the rest of us.

That video just saddened me only because we won't be seeing our team in any "History Will Be Made" commercials this spring.

After that, Montreal will be known as the city that took Scott Gomez's career out back and put a bullet in it.

Pretty sure any kind of sarcastic celebration will be seen as a very negative thing for any player looking from the outside. The Habs players probably aren't going to find it very funny either.

This is beyond sad, in my opinion.

Quite frankly, I am getting tired of all this hate towards Gomez. Just today at work, conversations went as followed:

"Gagner had 8 points last night. So how's Gomaaaaaize doing?"
"Desharnais is doing good. Gomaaaaaize? Pourri!"
"That delivery guy seemed so lost and confused. Like Gomaaaaize."

Seriously, I get it. $7 million a year and the guy hasn't scored in a calendar year. He has shown nothing but class during his run with this organization and has been a great guy on and off the ice. Here in Montreal, fans love to say "Yeah best fans in the world!". It's crap like this that justify fans of other sports teams laughing at the absurdity of this statement.

@Skorpion, I don't buy that stuff. If I were in his(Gomez) shoes, I'd be the 1st guy donating like 1 Million bucks to the Montreal Children's Hospital or something.

The obsession can get a little tiring, I get that.

But let's not kid anybody either, NYR or Philly merciless fans would have booed a forward in Gomez situation out of state long ago, and probably a lot less politely and humoristically than we're doing here (Petr Nedved anyone ?)

With high quality ice-time Gomez has not scored a goal in 1 calendar year (maybe I just jynxed him) and has barely been booed at all ; and when he is, a big portion of the crowd loudly cheers to negate them. Frankly, I don't think he's had it too bad in Montreal.

You also have to look at it from a fans point of view, if this were Boston.. be 10 times worst!

Montreal is basically handicapped itself by having a Cap 7 million less than the rest of the league! That hurts! New York would have him in the AHL with Connecticut. The Habs as of 2012 are not the Habs of the past, screw class & honor when you haven't won since 1993! They are only the Habs in name, the real Habs are long gone.... with the Forum.

if that's what we have to compare ourselves to, the "best fans in the world" sure becomes a problem then...

Not as bad as Boston, but more passionate & don't accept losing like Toronto. Guess Montreal is like purgatory.

Maybe the team should move back to the Forum. Has anyone had that idea yet?

At first I thought the whole "Gomez day" thing was funny, and I even liked the facebook group. But now I think people are going a bit too far. Apparently they're encouraging people to sing "Happy birthday Scotty!" at 11:11 of each period? That's just pointlessly cruel.

I hope people will cheer for him tomorrow. Not sarcastically, but honest to goodness cheers. The dude has always been a professional, and he's been made the scapegoat during his entire stay. When all the smurfs came in, he promised us he'd learn French and he was the only one with the guts to speak French on TV.

Is he on the decline? Totally. But being cruel to him is just stupid. He doesn't deserve this. He knows he isn't worth 7 million dollars right now. There's no need to remind him.

I hope he scores tomorrow.

If we could bring back Gainey for a weekend, this would probably be it... would be nice to hear a nice "**** off" to the Jaunes.

Gomez has to scores tommorow! I don't want our stupid fan to boo him and remember him that he hasn't scored for a year! HE KNOWS IT. LEAVE GOMER ALONE. Seriously this not scoring birthday thing is so stupid.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I really wish he finds some magical solution deep down inside and comes out tomorrow and scores a big goal, but the sad truth is that it's been one year since he's scored, and at 7million he needs to produce wayyyyy more then what he has so far in order to live up to his contract.
In the previous thread "are you willing to give Gomez another chance" you saw something like 70% said they were finished with him. I'm sure if we polled today it would be 90%.
People have made their minds up with him, they're done. He's done in Montreal. Now the only question is when! How long will management allow this circus to continue?
It's really sad to see, he seems like a great dude.

if you want to criticize anyone for this mess, go no further than Gainey...

he brought this situation into the organization, and frankly I don't think fans in any other major sports market would be any "classier" in dealing with it.

to be honest, this whole "celebration" thing strikes me as being a bit of self-depricating humour on the part of the fan base.

How do you think the LA Lakers fans would treat an unproductive player taking up such a big chunk of their cap space?

NFL doesn't have this problem since players just get cut when they perform as poorly as Gomez has, but can you imagine the vitriol you'd see from Jets or Giants fans if their team was stuck with an ineffective player as their highest paid player?

same thing with european soccer... players that stink it up get a ton of abuse from fans, stadiums chanting insults towards them...

Frankly, Gomez has gotten off pretty lightly all things considered. In other cities/sports he might be facing non-stop booing every time he hit the field of play.

chill out, enjoy the parody, might as well have some fun with it to distract from what a cluster ******* it was trading for him in the first place and being stuck with him now.

I'd honestly be a bit surprised if he weren't somewhat depressed by his performance. Anyone with one iota of pride would be. Hopefully, he's not deeply depressed. That's dangerous territory. But it wouldn't be altogether surprising.

Ironically, Gomez had his career year after the lockout year. He spent that year in the ECHL:

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...70&encode=TRUE

2003-04 New Jersey Devils NHL 80 14 56 70
2004-05 Alaska Aces ECHL 61 13 73 86
2005-06 New Jersey Devils NHL 82 33 51 84
Right because sending a once great player to the minors would boost his confidence, the only thing that would do is ruin his career further.

I disagree with this whole celebration, I mean this guy is a professional and I'm sure he's well aware of his scoring drought and him seeing this type stuff had to hurt and make the guy feel even more worse than he already is feeling. I wish the fans wouldn't do this type of stuff, I'm sure players read or hear about this stuff and really want to jump on the chance to play for the habs.
To be honest, I feel bad for him. That stuff is funny but it's kind of going too far with the media jumping in this. After all, Scott is a human being...

...but still, score an effing goal please. I mean, dude... 1 year? NHL? 7.5 millions? Stanley Cup vet? DUDE!!?

lol.

My popularity on HFBoards is irrelevant to how I feel about myself.

My real life = Not HFboards

HFBoards = When I'm slacking off work, or in my pajamas at home.

I haven't met any of you, and none of you have ever met me... We could love each other online, and hate each other in person. And vice versa.

I place very little importance on what people perceive me as on here. Thankfully.

I hope I'm not the only one who separates reality and hockey forums.
