Ben Walker a HUGE asset to the Royals

Since Walker has came to the Royals VIA trade and US Hockey, he's been a hit. 20 points in 27 games for the Royals. Does this mean more teams will be looking for players from the US?

I liked Walker's game, from what I've seen in person and read, though I dont know how easy a sell it is to get some US kids up here now that US College hockey program has seemingly improved over the last few years (at least that's been my perception)

I think that the CHL will always be THE place for players to play if they want to make it to the bigs but since scouting has become so broad I dont think there's as much pressure on non-Canadians to play there as there once was

25 points in 30 games is VERY good for anyone playing for the Royals.

He will lead the Royals in scoring next year.

Habscheid has been double shifting him of late. He's often playing on the 1st, and 4th lines. He's definitely become the coaches go to player.

But, I believe the other Minnesota native, Logan Nelson, will be leading the Royals in scoring next season.

He didn't come through trade, he signed as a free agent in Edina in Minnesota. Medicine Hat was also in the mix of getting him.

But Walker has been superb for us as of late, can move the puck really quickly up the ice and uses his linemates well to create offensive chances.

Victoria is going to be a good draw for players in situations like Walker. Nice city, moderate climate, and a coach/GM with a strong reputations.

Same thing was said when Peter Mueller went to Everett. Didn't really start a chain reaction like some predicted.

I've heard people from Hawaii say Vic is the most beautiful place on earth (disagree but it is pretty incredible) and I have a sneaking suspicion that Everett has never been mentioned in similar context.

Yeah, Everett's nothing to write home about.

As for Mueller, I was speaking more about players from Minnesota leaving to play in the WHL.

Finally, Marc Habscheid is nothing without Bruce Hamilton.

It's possible Habscheid steps back at some point. His team drafts well, that much I'm happy with. The Hicketts pick will pay off starting next fall.

I'm excited for next year just because of Hicketts, Walker, Hodges and Nelson.

Agreed, but I think guys like Jones, Conroy, Magee, and Kanzig will be a lot better next year.

Ben's younger brother is quite a player, too. Might be a bit young/ small to have much of an impact this year, but he' ll develop. Oh, and there's another brother who should be ready in a year or two.

Don't expect a deluge of US players to the WHL. The Walker brothers left MN HS hockey because of poor grades, not a desire to play in Major Junior.

I like the way Jack plays, but his game won't be the best suited for the WHL, he's really small and lanky. Great player and he's being used as a forward here in Victoria, both Ben and Jack are excellent skaters. Jack's game better suites the USHL/College route, but what you said is a solid reason for bolting to the WHL.

32 Points in 39 games so far this year, and a whopping +20 as well.

Key part to the Royals' success this year.
